hey guys i'm getting read to go to the local yard to pull a throttle body of a 86-87 to put on to my 89, am i going to need anything else to do this swap? please let me know

nope. there isn't if you haven't already gone. just stop by the local parts house and pick up a new Throttle body gasket.

For best results you need to run the early throttle body with the early TPS sensor

Any "gain" you get comes from using 3/4 throttle with the "big" early TB
and getting the same ammount of air into the engine
(if you had a manifold vacuum guage you'd see that the big TB brings NOTHING to the party itself) but telling the coputer that it's at 3/4 throttle.

The way it works is by getting all the air you were before but keeping the engine management in "closed loop" (thus avoiding a full throttle signal that makes the management go into "open loop" (PIG RICH)

You'll also notice the throttle is more abrubt at lower part throttle settings.

People who have the big TB from the factory will tell you that
past 3/4 doesn't do much on a 2.9.

thanks for all the info. guess the real question now is it worth doing the swap? does it really help in anyway?

Is it worth doing the swap?

Well... I went into the same situation by the back door.

My truck, an '87, originally came with the "big TB".
But I discovered the "improvement" by switching to an '88-92 Computer.

And BTW, the '88's came with the little TB, ONLY '86-87 came with the big one.
