Throttle Body Spacer

Alright I'm looking at having a TBS machined for my 2.9....
i've tweaked my skills a bit with turbocad and here's the q..
should I go with a threaded designed or a finned design for the helicals...
and...about an inch thick?
second q...sort of related...
I was also working up the pattern for the plenum spacer suggested...
and i don't feel like hunting down my book so any suggestions on material to have it made from ?

wouldn't really matter, IMO, unless you polish the entire upper & lower intake and heads & high flow exhuast....with the center divider on the interior of the upper intake, any swirl action for better combustion, that could be generated by your spacer would, in all likelyhood be lost...be it finn or thread with everything behind it left stock.

Not to say that the project isn't good practice for your studies.

Others will probably chime in and say that the throttle spacer won't produce any notiable proformance change, reguardless of design.
 
very true regardinging the center divider..hadn't thought about that

despite the fact the ranger's sittin idle in my garage I havent had the intake off in months...so that gives me something to ponder

more or less the TBS is a winter boredom project..depending on what the machine shop will charge for whatever I come up with would be the ultimate factor....I got the idea simply because of seeing all those on Ebay for 4.0's (realing their manifolds are a bit different, but i've never actually seen one in person)

I also toyed with cad'ing a new intake for a supercharger but obviously there's much more involved there not only with design but what else needs done to the engine plus pulley's etc (although I figure a serpentine conversion would not be hard if i set my mind to it)

So many ideas float around my head in winter..nothing better to do for those of us with limited garage space ....unheated garage space

here's another one...design a bolt on electric water pump..let's get the debate started on whether they work or not lol
 
can the center divider be removed?

I'm sure it could be removed, with the right tools and patience to nibble it out. It is pretty hefty.

The better question is Should it be removed??...meaning will the center divider being gone may create other problems ...IDK....like disproportionate air flow...from front to back...or more likely side to side....then again It's a smaller V6....not big block racing engine...Like i said IDK.
I'm not sure that there is such a issue, maybe it simply won't matter...but Surely others here at TRS that have FAR more experience and knowelge on the flow dynamics of a upper intake & will offer a better answer.
 
IDk either...if I had even more patience I might cad up the upper intake and ask a friend to run flow software on it to see what it does...

Brandon Miller over on RPS I just found out has access to Ford cad info (lucky sob) but ...
1) he's running a business
2) he has access to the info because he's running the business
3) he does more with the 3.0
4) I don't really know him and all things considered I would fell awkward asking him if he could get me the files for the 2.9 (not that the thought didn't cross my mind anyway)

that being said...if I do make any attempt to CAD an intake s/c or otherwise I will definitely be askin my buddy a favor from his software at work ..
