i was just on summit and i see that jba makes headers and gibson makes a catback exhaust for the 3.0 ranger , wonderin if anyone has done this and how the motor performs as compared to stock , i want more power , neeed opinions on easiest ways

i bought the gibson catback for my 3.0 and love it!! you wont notice a huge difference but i definitely noticed an increase in low end torque and a little more pep overall, plus it sounds freaking sweet! i also bought the jet performance module for, it made more of a difference than the exhaust did. like i said though, you wont notice huge improvements but IMO both the chip and the exhaust were worth the money and i would buy them again.

yea , we had a 02 chevy 2500 hd with gibson headers and cat back , it perfoemed better thwn the other 2500 with the same motor , not alot , but you could tell the difference , not sure if i can do the performance chip as the truck has to be plugged into the state inspection machine every year throught the DLC , godda** New York State Emission Laws

Please don't expect any improvement except more noise! If sound is what you are willing to spend your money for, go ahead.. The 3.0 is doing all it can for you. Short of changing gearing there is little you can do to improve felt horsepower. Learn to live with it.
Grasping at straws is common amoung guys needing a 4.0 and having a 3.0..

Big Jim , Thanks for the opinion but i know a thing or two about cars , i know that a freer flowing exhaust does help with the power as it relieves some of the backpressure created by stringent emission parts , therefore something such as a gibson or dynomax exhaust does make it louder , it also adds some performance , as i stated we had a 2500 hd chevy with the full gibson and the 6.0 in that responded alot better than the 6.0 in our regular 2500 , and the hd was an extended cab long box , that is alot of truck to move , yes it was loud , but it was quicker too

Backpressure is a really bad term for it, you really want to maintain the proper velocity.

My exhaust on my F-150 helped a tad with it downshifting on hills, I drive the very same 60 mile routine on a rural highway both ways each week and noticed it eliminated most of the pointless downshifts (like when you are 100' from the top of the hill) Milage stayed the same on the highway though, and dramatically dropped around town as it is fun to listen too.

Like I said it helped a little bit, but that alone wasn't worth the $500 I paid for it, but as far as customizations go it has been one of the most rewarding to date as I get to enjoy it whenever I drive my truck. Although I would probably take it do a different shop, I would gladly do it again.

Things feel a lot faster when you can hear the effort they are putting out, unless you timed the Chevy before and after keep in mind the butt dyno is easily fooled, and the HD probably has lower gearing as well...

Dunno what to tell you for your 3.0, but I was happiest with the sound of a Walker Turbo muffler on my 2.8, I could JUST tell that it was running at idle from the drivers seat.. Some engines should be seen and not heard... imo V-6's are one of them. The glasspack I had on there was downright offensive, but at least once I got going about 45mph the tires would drown it out.
