Hi Everyone

just passed 1K miles on this new 2024 lariat. i have read different takes on this

any thoughts on doing a proactive oil change now? and using synthetic oil from here on out? any real benefit to doing this ?

thank you !

From what I understand, Ford doesn't use a break in oil like some car manufacturers do. So, an oil change that soon isn't necessary.

You won't hurt anything doing it either. Just don't wait for the oil change notification to come up before changing it. I've seen videos of failed engines being opened up with only 10K oil changes being done. The valvetrain was loaded with sludge and nastiness.

I wouldn't go any longer than 7,500 miles or every 6 months if you don't drive that much. Whichever comes first.

Very Nice,

thanks for that info! i will def get it done before then for sure!

Yep. The same goes for a lot of the other fluid changes in the manual as well. They are geared to lower the costs of maintaining the vehicle. As long as the vehicle lasts beyong the warranty, they're good as far as the manufacturer is concerned.

Opinions vary on when you should do them. With the reputation of these transmissions, I wouldn't go longer than 30,000 miles for a fluid and filter change. Not a flush, a drain and drop the pan and change the filter.

Change the transfer case fluid at the same time. I would also change the gear oil in the rear axle as well.

The front axle is usually just along for the ride, so you can go longer before a fluid change on it. I do 60,000 miles on it.

You can usually go along with the manual on the engine coolant. But once you change it, change it every three years.

With the new brake fluid these trucks use, I have no idea on it. Just keep an eye on it and change it when it gets dark. Regular old DOT3 is every three years but this new stuff has been clear so far since 2019. Hard to find too. I had to mail order mine just so I had a bottle on hand.

fwiw, I would not recommend going to full synthetic until you are past 5000 miles. Let the rings really seat before you go full synthetic.

I'm no expert on how engines break in and stuff but I know that the first oil change after a rebuild has junk in the pan thats worth getting out a little early. I always do a half change after.

OK update; I talked to my friend who is a powertrain engineer for three auto companies. He is ambivalent about it. Change it on time and never be late.

I can agree with this. For every TRS user with a new Ranger theres probably 100 that just get bought and driven and will make it over 100k miles. I still dont think doing it at like 2k would be a bad idea.

awesome info everyone, thank you so much !

I always change my oil every 5000 miles with synthetic. On a new vehicle I change it the first time at 2500 miles, again at 5000 miles, and every 5000 after that.
At the factory they put in Motorcraft Synthetic Blend so you could do that at the first oil change and full synthetic after that.
At 30,000 I changed the axles and T-case lube, they all drained out like tar, and getting ready to them again soon at 90,000. I have a 2020 with drain plugs on the axles but your 2024 probably does not.
