I have a chance to buy off of my father a 2000 Nissan Frontier SE kingcab 4x4. The good 40k on the clock,3.3v6 5spd
My dad wants around 8-8500k for it.
I debating to make it a work truck and ditch the '02 E-250 van(I'm ready to torch this POS)I can say is I wont be buying another Ford product after owning this van.But thats another story.:annoyed:
Any thoughts.
yeh or ney

i think they look pretty sweet bu ti have never driven one. i got a fide in it but it was hard to tell anything about it because the girl whoowned it drove really carfully. but i see a fair few of them around here so i guess there pretty good. and 8,000 is a pretty fair price for one i think.

my uncle had a 98 or 99 I think with the 4-banger, crew cab 4x4. He was very pleased with it, and actually just replaced it with a brand new one with the 4.0l.

So you wouldn't even own another ranger after that van?????

I owned a 1988 I bought new and I'll never buy another nissan as long as I live. Not only was the truck a POS but I got NO support on the warranty problems I had even after writing a five page letter to their headquarters complaining about everything. They maaaay have improved quality since then, but I wouldn't take the chance. More importantly, I feel it is my duty to tell the entire planet how they boned me- doing just what I promised them I'd do everytime I got the chance.

Their newer cars have oil consumtion problems, but apparently you know this truck- but I won't ever buy anything from them, even if they built a diesel small truck...

Nissans are the only thing my grandparents will buy. they have had 2 maximas and an older pickup. I think it is just called a Kingcab. He bought that truck new, works it fairly hard and has had to problems with it. As far as I know, it is an '84 pick up, so it has been around a while.

But comparing my grandpa's Nissan to my Ranger, I would say that my Ranger can probably pull/ haul more, but the Nissan is a nicer ride. The interiors look better than that age of Ranger too I think. nI havent ever riden in a newer Nissan pick up, but I think that style would keep going. Hual less, but be a nice riding/ looking truck.

Honestly, given my choice, I would buy a Nissan before a Ford. I bought a Ranger becuase it fit my price ranger better than a something like a Nissan Frontier. But I also believe you get what you pay for, and you pay more for a Nissan.

After having my van sit outside in Mullinax Ford's lot for 4 months and waiting for a dealer only part.It gave me a sour taste. So far this year alone I've spent over 4 grand alone in repairs to the van with only 83k.My van is my office and without it is a real pain in the fanny and working out of the camry sucks.
Unless Ford has a better warranty and stop treating its bread and butter customers like crap.I will never ever go back to Ford. :pissedoff: EVER!
My ranger on the other hand has been great other than Ford's inability to keep paint from peeling. gggrrrr

My '95 Pathfinder 4x4 sucked.

Engine problems, transmission problems, and electrical suspension problems all began to magically appear after the warranty ran out.

No more Nissans for me.

YMMV.

The paint isn't Ford's fault. Ford didn't make the paint, the paint company made the paint. At the time your truck was built urethane paint was still a new thing, so all the bugs hadn't been worked out yet.

If it's seven years old that's less than 6K a year. That's not necessarily a GOOD thing. Another thing, Do you need the 4x4? If not, then pass on it and find a 2wd. I'm assuming since you'll be replacing the van the 4wd is unnecessary but could be wrong. Fords rule!!

My problem is this.I don't want to spend 30k on a new van.Being 4wd really does not bother me too much, but your right you really don't need 4wd for a service/installation vehicle.

That weird, those vans are usually pretty indestructable, unless you roll it. An E250 with a straight six is probably one of the most abusable vehicles ever made. I've seen some with better than 500K before.

The only bad thing I hear about nissan pickups is that that the manual trannies tend to take a dump at around 90K-100K miles.

+1 . They are pretty low tech so I can't see why a van would be stuck at a dealer for so long. If it's off warranty, then it should not take so long to get parts as you use anything ie used or aftermarket parts to get it on the road again. Particularly if it's a work truck.

Me thinks you are getting boned.

Econolines are junk....ill admit.

I had a 94.....tranny problems, and the 302 burned oil like a fleeing iraqi, and electrical issues out the ass. It was a conversion so that may have had something to do with it.

Dont buy anything Foreign.....its all junk. Espically for a work vehicle. It will fall apart faster thne a 40 yr old woman who just had a kid.

I hate to say it but the older Chevy Vans seem to hold up well....maybe look at one of those.

Alot better then that jap junk.

later,
Dustin

The catalytic converter went at 51k.It clogged and would prevent it form running. Its a long story..so here I go.. I had it towed to a local repair place. They said you should get this to a dealership it should be covered under warranty. So I made some calls and Mullinax Ford said sure tow it up here and we'll cover it under warranty.COOL......
After I got it towed up to them, they said sorry not covered.(50k warranty..my truck just turned 51k)They gave me a price of 2400$ to repair.I had a flippin cow..moo..Oh btw its a dealer only part and so no matter what I have to get it from them.I said fine do the job but you people suck. The lacky behind the desk said sorry but you'll have to wait a week or so to get the part. Once again fine do the job..One week turned into two then after waiting for the dealership to call me.I called them. Sorry no converter. It will be coming in any day now.Well a week turned into just over 4 months(Jan 3 to April 12) After calling Ford Mo Co directly and complained they said sorry its not our fault.Excuse me..You make the truck how can you not have a Dealer only part.It got to the point I had my wife deal with these people.I would just loose my cool once I started. At one point they asked me (dealership) to go under my truck and disconnect the cats and drive around until the part comes in.Sure I'll do it..give me a break ..bunch of clowns. Now what they didn't want to tell me was that Ford had switched over the mfg who made the cats and didn't make enough of them and could not located any in their system. After a long talk with the GM about my van he stated that he would bill out the entire job out to Ford warranty work and no cost to me.COOL but it still does not make up for not having a truck for 4 months but anyhow it works for me.
But it gets better.I go pick up my van and the lacky behind the desk hands me a bill for 700.00.WTF you got to be kidding.I was ready to have a smile your on candid camera moment. The lacky said well youll have to pay for some this..call the GM.. after waiting for 20 minutes the GM told the lacky it was a no charge.
So to say this dealership/fomoco left a sour taste is an under statement.BTW that was 2 years ago,and still pisses me off.The other ordeal is the tranny going at 75k then again @83k.I know these trucks can last a real long time(thats why I bought one) but this truck as cost me way too much in aggravation alone and forget the cost factor. This thing is a turd on wheels.
