I consider 85 mph a perfectly good speed to merge with trafic when entering an interstate before fifth gear, just not in a Ranger!

TIB/TTB sux. I really don't know why Ford kept it so long. For the last 4-5 years I've been towing with a Chevy with SLA real independent front suspension. Then n9emz and I did that tow-off where we pitted his '96 2wd F250 against his 4x4 Jimmy. I drove the F250 and we both had 6,000# trailers. The first curve we go into I was scared--not used to the uneasy feeling that TIB gives. It jacks the inside tire and pulls it in and feels like it is refusing to go around the curve. I was hugging the center console and feeding in more steering until it went. I got used to it by the end of the drive, but when you are used to a truck doing what it is supposed to a TIB/TTB is a shocker. That it has lasted 40+ years and has been the centerpiece of the best selling truck for most of that time is proof that most people don't use their trucks except for use as cars.

I've heard several horror stories of how bad Ford 15-pax vans are--one by my wife that took a load of female Cummins engineers to a weekend retreat a month ago, and I think Ryan used one in college and hated it. I drove a Chevy 15 passenger for work and it handled great--we were in Europe and I had it on the Autobahn with the pedal to the floor for hours on end and loved the handling. Especially throwing it through traffic circles with a full load.

TIB sux compared to an SLA in every way. TTB is better than a 4x4 with SLA for offroad, but has no advantage on the road. I have no problem with 4x4 SLA--my favorite 4x4 is still the old '93 Pathfinder. But for serious offroad a TTB can contend and an SLA can't.

For a heavy pickup, no TIB for me. I like to haul ass with a full load and I like precise handling and steering for that.

wtf is wrong wit yall, 200k miles on my 90 down in atlanta, on the interstate with the needle soo far past the 85 marker i thought it had fallen off. ann i had was a dirty k&n and a glass pack, 85 was no prob, bout everything stock
lifters ticken and all.

mine right now cant push its self up hills in 4 low it just dies, but when it ran good i couldnt go above sixty and plus 85 with no brakes in something that is shaky as **** aint the cooolest feeling ever

Maybe its just me... but what is the obsession with speeding in an underpowered vehicle? I'll admit it, I did it once or twice in my old car just to see what she'd pull up to... but 130mph is a little more impressive than 83... (especially out of a 4-banger) And even that's nothing to brag about. Most newer grocery getters are LIMITED to 118mph, and capable of topping that with ease. I guess I just wouldnt post a pic of 83mph... if that were me, I'd keep it to myself. It's a truck, not a sports car.

And besides, excessive speed is not a good idea, ESPECIALLY in a vehicle that wasn't designed to handle it. Dangerous and illegal. Just my 2 cents.

if i go above 60 the whole front end starts bouncing and shaking like crazy, and gets worse the faster you go. Im running 3.45s and 33s though no sway bars, when i got the tires balanced they couldnt get it perfect either. They also used some weird weights that glue into the center of the rim not the clip on kind. Some of them fell off so i know thats part of the problem, im going to put some shocks on the front today, see if that helps.

I was cruising down the highway this morning, looked down at the speedo, and realized I was doing 80. Felt like I was only doing 65. Drives perfectly straight and smooth, no scary wobbles or shakes. Then again, I have the SLA suspension.

had 265/75/15 instead of stock size 215/75/15, speedo off by that much?
if so how fast was i going when it said 170-175km?

85mph..ha that was cruising speed with my 92 3.0l, PERFECT speed the for engine (with 3.45s) I found out. Of course I only did this when I had some bear bait in front of me. Drives perfectly straight and precise even with the inferior TIB.
