Hey all, I'm brand new here and am considering buying this 86 Bronco II. My dad had a few full sized broncos, but I've heard a lot of bad rumors regarding the B2s, watch out for rod knocks, stuck valves, misfiring when warmed up, etc... I've always been of the mindset that ANY vehicle will last forever with basic maintenence, and I've been lucky with that sort of approach. But we all know some vehicles simply aren't designed as well as others.

So, being the B2 savvy bunch that you are, in all honesty, what sort of issues are these trucks known for? Engines/tranny to avoid? I'm looking at this one that seems too good to be true; rock solid body, rebuilt engine, 4-spd standard, lift kit (which I'll probably take a couple inches off of)... I'm pretty good at fixing things but I need to familiarize myself with a vehicle before committing to it.

Edit: It doesn't currently run, due to a starter/flywheel issue, whatever that means. If it's just a starter, it seems like a steal.

The more info the better! Thanks!

Dibs, by the way if any of you are in this area.

Come on guys, I know you all want to convince me to buy this thing. And share all your wisdom.

Buy it if your prepared to do the work
They are really easy to work on and modifications are endless
however the auto trans is the worse thing about that truck swap to a 5 speed manual trans and you'll be set!
Nice lookin truck wish mine was that clean
Just curious what they asking for it??

What's all that white stuff?

Looks nice.

I'd start with getting it started. #1 problem with the engine is usually the heads. They are notorious for blown or cracked heads. Change out your thermostat twice a year to avoid the problem and change your radiator fluid once a year. Sometimes they tend to idle up and down and that's usually the ICV or throttle position sensor. If they die when warm that's usually the ignition control module. These older ones tend to have problems with the gas pump. All these items are fairly simple fixes other than the blown/cracked head. The 2.9 is a tough little engine and lasts a long time if well maintained.

The A4LD automatic trans sucks. I think you said yours is a four speed standard? They usually came with a five speed.
