thinking of 97 explorer

Thinking of picking up a 97 explorer for parts for my 94 ranger, but have no clue which parts are interchangable. The explorer has a 5L but the tranny has a problem according to the owner. I am trying to get in contact with the owner cause the add says very little, doesn't list kms,4x4 or not, no pic. Any help weather it is worth having an explorer part vehicle for a ranger with a different engine is beyond me. I don't plan an engine swap or anything. Just looking for info.
