I have a 95 ranger reg cab, short box 2.3 manual. Now I have a complete running 96 v8 explorer, and a complete running 87 mustang. What one would be better to use?? I also want to run a t5. I also have a 9al computer so I can convert the mustang harness to m.a.f. Witch one would work better with my truck?? and a mild build h.o. motor??

I would use all the Mustang stuff since you want to run the T5.

Like Teddy said, I'd use the Mustang wiring but use the motor that's in the best condition. Explorer has the shorter front dress and intake/heads. Lots mix and match to get the best bang for the buck with what they have.

So I know that I need the wiring for the engine is that all I need?? How do I splice it into the truck ?? it's obd2. Do I just splice in run and start for 5.0 ecm??

Many of your questions can be answered by simply reading thru the "sticky" threads at the top of the thread list. Read, read and read more. Then come back with specific questions. If you're not willing to do a little research, you'll never complete a swap.

Advantage 96 Explorer 5.0 in 95 Ranger:
  • Similar engine bay wiring
  • More compact accessory drive
  • 90 degree oil filter mount
  • Factory oil cooler
  • Better GT-40 heads
  • Better GT-40 style upper and lower intake manifolds
  • Bigger 65mm throttle body
  • Bigger 70mm MAF
Advantage 87 Mustang H.O. in 95 Ranger:
  • Higher performance cam
  • Forged pistons
  • Better exhaust manifolds (may not fit without mods)
  • T-5 compatitible PCM

Factory oil cooler will not fit TTB rangers (see the first post in my build thread, its covered). The explorer wiring harness is plug and play, no cutting or splicing, and the ECU can be programmed with a tuner or visit to the dealer to delete the auto trans so you can run the T-5...As stated above, the mustang motor has the better pistons and cam. If you want to get the best of both and don't mind a little wrenching, take the mustang short block and bolt on the explorer heads and intake. Mustang factory headers will not fit the TTB ranger, but you can go with the explorer manifolds/headers (which are restrictive) for ease of the swap...

So I guess, I'am using the explorer wiring since it's plug and play :). For the motor I have allready started build one. I have all the things sorted out for it, in a few stages:). What kind of tunner?? like hypertech?? Can I use the motor mounts from the explorer or would I be better off getting convertable mustang mounts?? Thanks for all the help :)

For the TTB I used the ranger 4.0L rubbers and the explorer plates, which the driver side needs to be modified, the passenger bolts right up (see my build thread, 1st post). There are others that have used mustang mounts (and need to drill a hole in the engine x-member on each side). Tuners, supertech should have that capability, I am using the SCT tuner, which is very useful and can have custom tuned written for your specific add-ons...

That Explorer ECU needs a lot of work if you're looking for sporty performance. For example, it has a rev limiter @5200rpm or less.

In a 2wd Ibeam truck, Mustang motor mounts are a good way to go.
That Explorer 90* oil filter adapter will not clear your steering box.

The Explorer front accessories will allow you leave your rad in the stock location.

There are many, many ways to do this.
