That little bit of damage isnt a reason to get rid of the truck. Just shows you use it.

my parents threatened to sell the truck and keep the money they get for it
so your parents want it to be showroom condition? even that its a daily drive?
Thats the first problem, is the title still in their name I take it?

they want it to look like a show truck, i didnt want the diamond plate box, the bed rails or the handles on there, they did...
you have no idea how many times my mom threatened to sell my trucks , she threatened to sell the 96 4 times , the 2000 3 times and this one 2 times so far , i just keep on doing what i do , and she has given up threatening , hell my red truck has some scratches , a dent or 2 , and the blue one is missing chunks out of the bedside
if i was in your shoes i would take that stuff off and tell my parents ' listen , i bought this truck for me to drive , not for you to put shit on and tell me what i can do with it and when , if you want to have a truck to put stuff on and drive how you want , then either take over the payments on this or buy your own , do not tell me how my truck should look , and what i can or cant do with it '
but , that is just me , there were many times my mom got pissed at me for doing what i did with my trucks when i was still making payments , i told her that o well , if i break it i fix it , it is my truck , i make the payments , and if you dont like it , then you can make the payments and drive it ( i knew she wouldnt , she likes her sable's and grand am's too much )
You're 17, listen to your parents or suffer the consequences...it may suck but we've all been there.
i had the 96 when i was 16 , and i never listened to mom then with it , and i broke shit , and i paid out of pocket to fix it , and i paid for the truck too , all i am getting at is the fact that he makes the payments , not them , the only reason that the title is in their name is because i believe it is illegal for someone under 18 to register a vehicle , i mean , if they had given him the truck as a gift and they paid for it , that is one thing , but he is paying for it , it is his , not theirs to dictate what he can and can't do
