Thinking about new handgun purchase.

I enter Squall-Mart only when I must. Several years ago it used to have cheaper 9 mm ammo than I could normally find at gun shows. I'll bet it doesn't even carry that caliber any more.

Local WM's haven't had guns for years around here, when they cleared their shelves of handgun ammo back in '19 I loaded up (clearance ammo...), now they don't even carry ammo... barely any BB/pellet guns or ammo anymore...

we had an old school small walmart that had lots of useful things in it, like an ace hardware type store, but when they built the super walmart, it went to crap. they went to carrying what sells in mass around the usa and have nothing that is really useful here so i have found out its pretty worthless to go in there unless i need cat food or a battery, or something generic like that

Not completely on topic.

Does anyone own a Remington Tac-14?

I’m thinking about one of these trying to get a few some public opinion.

I'm not totally clear on the laws but I have always thought a shot gun was only legal with a minimum 18 inch barrel. Maybe it's only for hunting purposes.

They sure have a bunch of tactical shotguns these days.

it’s not a shotgun, it’s a pistol because it doesn’t have a shoulder thing.:)

So it shoots pistol ammo... makes sense now.

If you are asking about the Taurus Judge or the Smith & Wesson Governor, the reason they aren't considered shotguns is because the barrel is rifled. If it was smooth bore, it would be an NFA item.

I was actually questioning the TAC-14

Pistol ammo is whatever ammo that fits in the pistol. Like .308 can go in a pistol.

After looking it up it’s OAL is greater then 26”.
It’s classified as a “firearm” by the ATF.
Because it was manufactured to have a 14” barrel it’s not a shotgun, just a firearm. Fine apparently.

If you do it yourself at home that’s a Short barrel shotgun. Not Ok.

Clear as mud now?

Apparently the tac14 isn't an nfa item because it meets some sort of overall length requirement.

*whoop wasn't quick enough lol.

So it's a loop hole.

That said... I would personally prefer a longer barrel. Had a buddy trick out a mossberg 500 for a home defence weapon. He cut the barrel to 18 1/2 inches... and installed several readily available tactical accessories.

Our local Wally's here has a separate grocery only store and then the main Walmart. I seldom go in the big store for anything but motor oil since they quit selling ammo. I keep a full size 1911 bedside and in the car when traveling; my .357 wheel gun is still my favorite if I carry. I feel If I can't solve the problem with 7 shots I shouldn't own a gun.

I avoid Wally Word too...not for political reasons or anything...but because its crowded, disheveled and everything is junk. Even the tupperware is crap. I don't like things that break before they wear out, especially when they have no moving parts. I'm an oil snob so I go to a legit shop or reputable big box store. They never have ammo at any of the 4 Wallys within my 20 mile radius, I stopped bothering to check years ago. I don't think the ones in L.A. county sell ammo at all.

AFAIK Walmart doesn't sell rifled barrel ammo anywhere in California unless you want pellet gun ammo. I buy ammo online and have it shipped to Oregon. I'm an oil snob also but have never found Mobil 1 cheaper than Wally's. I buy in bulk when on sale and avoid going to that 3rd world country as much as possible.
