Thinking about new handgun purchase.

It’s not a loophole. It’s just a stupidly arbitrary way that our government decides to enforce laws.

AKA... loophole.

At least in my brain...

So it shoots pistol ammo... makes sense now.

In Iowa we can now hunt deer with straightwall pistol ammo. So obviously 45-70 is good to go.

Just be sure to leave the overpowered long range 30-30 at home...

Michigan is now the same way in zone 3. Basically lower southern peninsula... I just hunt deer with my CVA Optima pro in .45 cal. Some shoot the gun out to 200 yards.

None of it makes sense.

As long as your round is bigger than a .22 rim fire your good to go for deer, bear, and moose in maine. So, hunting with a pistol is legal.

I read the .45-70 is a caliber for hunting in heavy brush and shoots nicely flat out to 100 yards, but then drops quickly after about 150 yds. Seems the 6.5 grendel and .50 beowulf in an AR platform is all the rage these days. Yes, black guns can be used for deer hunting. Black guns matter lol.

Black guns are perfect for hunting.

You only need "one" firearm for everything from varmint to large game, just change the upper... and their way lighter than a 'regular' rifle.

45-70 will reach out a long ways although with a lot of drop. It retains engery impressively well. .

I built a 350 legend upper last spring. My grendel is one of those evil necked down cartridges...

In Oregon the hunting regs just say centerfire over .22 with soft tip ammo which is pretty open... I have a 5 round mag for my AR and some soft tip bullets for good measure but 30-06 is go to... technically my KEL TEC SUB 2000 with hollow points is legal too...

I normally take my old sporterized 30-06, or the 6.5mm mouser. Around here you aren’t going to see much over 100/150 yards.

The mouser is a beast. Can hit soda cans at 300yrds with 80 year old iron sights.

I bought a .35 Remington marlin leaver gun, but I need a lot of practice with that one.

100 or 150 is a good distance to see.

Up here, even being able to make a 50 yard shot without hitting a branch or something is a miracle, we got some thick forest.

Gotta ask, what model that was sporterized? my grandpa sporterized a 03-A3 Springfield, it's a beast at like 9lb (and the hard plastic butt plate leaves a dent when sighting in...), the Savage with synthetic stock is easier to carry around...

Even with an AR... hard to beat a synthetic stock bolt gun for weight.
