When my Dad owned my 97 Ranger (he bought it new in 97) he had to replace the egr at 50k and 100k because it went bad. the truck ran like complete ass. it would surge and chug at idle. so I would guess that this is your problem... and if I remember right, the stealership charged him several hundred bucks each occurrence...

It may not be the problem but you need to fix the obvious first just be sure and use a new gasket when you mount it that fitting gets real hot. GL

Im gonna be using this Form-A-Gasket stuff its in a tube. Will it hold in the hot temperatures??

A new gasket is only a couple of bucks I wouldn`t chance it get a good metallic one and torque it properly if it works then you wont have to mess with it .

That little piece can add up to a big problem to check if it is working take a piece of vacuum hose and hook it direct to manifold vacuum when it is idleing the engine should stall. a hand vacuum will work also. Your gonna want to reset the computer also by disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour before you start it.

Up, up and away!!! Shes running like a charm!! So happy when I got her all done. Ended up getting a gasket instead. Thank you very much for all your advice it worked well. Ill take some pics of my ranger soon.

Good job men have a beer on me.
