Got a small leak in the lower housing on my 2001, 4.0. I have all the parts. Have anyone one ever done this?

Yes. I managed to get it done without removing the intake manifold, but I'd recommend that you at least loosen it to gain a little more clearance.

We found by removing the belt, taking all but one bolt out of the alt bracket, it can swing away and allow more access. After dropping the bolts 15 or 20 times we put studs where the bolts went, put the thermostat, o-ring & in housing in place, used sticky stuff to put the nut in the socket and then, we were able to snug them up, Now with the studs in there it takes about 20 minutes to do the job.

Well it was not the housing. A bolt had corroded and broke off. So much fun.
