Finally got the wheels rolling on the full width swap. After months of searching I have finally found a bloody axle. A leaf sprung 44 hp out of a 85 or 78 f250( not sure kinda confused about that... Tried to run the bom number with no result.) it's going to be full width with skyjacker 8" ranger coils, I'm moving the coil buckets up af far as they can go, shock hoops with James duff "long shocks" radius arms will be..... Long lol triangulated rad arms. Steering will be cross over with hiems.
Oh and some sort for giant flares so the po po stays off my ass.

I'll be building all brackets and whatnot before hand and getting everything pretty much ready to bolt up for the most part. It's a dd and unfortunately I gotta do this thing everyday called "work", so that down time needs to be minimal. Minimum Plate thickness for brackets?

My two questions are.....
1. Do u guys think hiem joints are fine for a dd? I've never drivin a vehicle built like this with hiems so I don't really know what to expect.

2. Ranger or eb coils. I've seen lots of pictures an people of sas done with both and just wanna know why? Do the eb coils "snake" less? ( always see tall ranger coils with a bend in them.) or is it just flexing/preference?

Be careful... there are a lot of blood borne illnesses out there. be sure to clean that bloody axle thoroughly. And if removed from a crime scene, the DNA can be tracked back to you.

I have no real meaningful input toward your questions, but I do look forward to the build pictures :)

coil seating and arc travel have allot to do with snaky coils. often times you need to cant the seat one way or another to straighten the coil. when guys retain the ranger buckets its usually the main issue, if you upgrade to the aftermarket buckets and orient them correctly there will be minimal coil bow if any on the coils.

the ranger coils will likely be too stiff if your wanting max flex but may balance out well for street use, i would consider f series coils for a 79 application. for general hi mile use i would not want heims, as you need big dollar heims to run in my environment. regular 1 ton stuff fares better in my experience and is extremely cost effective by comparison. i would rather by a taper reamer to allow the 1ton upgrade then have heims on a driven truck. just my opinion based on all of the janked out shit the typical hiem setups end up being.

there are ways to make the good quality heims work though...you can buy various taper studs and such if for some reason you really prefer the heims.

i would run through a vendor like ruffstuff to get brackets...they are ridiculously cost effective these days, and they sell steering in tie rod or heim configurations quite cost effectively as well. the panhard/tracbar bracket options are real nice.

doing a sas today is a joke compared to 25 years ago. as it should be.

problem now is there are so many choices to factor the options with...not a bad problem to live with if you ask me.
