I just got a 92 Ranger the other day. The motor(2.9) runs smooth. But I put it in gear and let out the clutch and nothin happens, it doesn't drop rpm nothin the transfer case is elctronic and from what I can tell the buttons don't work, from what I've read there is no neutral but thats what it feels like. Thanks for any help you can give me.

transfer case in neutral? might actually be between the gears

I'm only good for 80's Borg warners, and they can be shoved by hand.

its a chain link case with either 2wd, 4 hi or 4lo theres no neutral so I would imagine its not stuck between gears somethings gotta move then.

I think I agree with Frank

Have you tried every gear? Same results? Does the driveshaft spin at all?

My guess is that your clutch isn't engaging... so I'll agree with said above

Ok, so I can't put it into gear without pushing in the clutch, I've tried every gear nothin. The clutch linkage moves so I don't think it's a stuck linkage issue. It most likely needs a clutch but I would think that at least a slight drop in rpm would occur when you put it into gear and let out the clutch, but it doesn't.is it possible that it's stuck in between 2hi or 4hi or 4low and in some sort of neutral like piotrsko said?

on the bw. 1350e & 1354e there is no nutral but lack of engaugement. its in the center of 4hi and 4lo

if it grinds gears when you put in gear with out the clutch, its your t case motor stuck.
if it does not grind, its your hydro throwout bearing, and or the frictions on the disk.
