The tailgate coffee table project

Alright, a little progress today. Not too much but I did manage to get the notch for the power supply cut.

Here it is all measured up.

and after 5 Dremel wheels it finally dropped. :yahoo:

aaand here we are finally cleaned up. I don't have a file set like I should, but I found an 80 grit sanding block got the job done well enough.

and here we are with a test fit. The drawer doesn't slide back all the way because I haven't started trimming wires yet.

If I get ambitious I may try to remove that sticker later today, we'll see.

Thanks for reading!

It's actually in better shape than I had hoped, no rust at all. The down side, someone had applied a brush in bed liner which makes it a little tough to remove the bolts. My plan is to use a wire wheel and vise grips and hope for the best, do you guys know a better way, perhaps?

cant wait to see whats under that panel!

just grind the heads off the bolts

this should work well.they are only screwed into plastic,so it should not be too hard to get them out.

cool!

got a suggestion. take off the 2 tailgate latches, and replace them with a couple of those fancy metal bottle openers.

I've actually been considering incorporating bottle openers into it somehow. Do you mean the two latches on the side of the tailgate?

I may have to look into that. For the moment I just bought one of these things for opening bottles

My plan was to just keep it in one of the drawers on the table but a built in opener would be even cooler.

I can see that making a mess. Maybe a magnetic bottle opened on the side of one of the boxes.

On the craftsman experience they built a toolbox with a bottle opener on the side and a cut down magnetic bolt holder mounted about 4 inches below it that would always catch and hold the caps. Definitely a neat idea.

this thing is gonna be the shit!

mmmm.... newcastle! got one for me?

Sadly not, I haven't drank that stuff since I first turned 21. I actually didn't mind it too much but I'm more of a lager guy when I drink beer. that was just the first picture for the tool that came up.

If you swing by to help on the tailgate I'll be happy to buy you a case of new castle brown ale tho :icon_cheers:

if you can find it out there in Delaware you ought to try the hairy eyeball
