the slo-vo build thread...

wow man, pretty awesome work!!
so hows been the experience with your welded axle?
mine has the 7.5 tho, which ive read is weaker than the 8.8 so i dont if it handls the stress
i see u havent broke a shaft yet. seems like u really know what you are doing on those pictures!

Actually, the 7.5 and 8.8 uses the exact same shaft, you can put an 8.8 axle shaft in a 7.5 housing, and vice versa, the only difference is the R&P size, carrier size, and carrier bearings...We're gonna be installing fully locking lincoln lockers front and rear in my rig this saturday:yahoo: so, I should be able to go wheelin again, and do a little better than last time!!

ohh thats nice!!
so would u recomend a lincoln(:icon_twisted:) for a 2WD used as a DD?
it has 3.73 and runnin on 30" tires
i might do it for some weekend trailing action, or option 2: save get a 8.8 with 4.10 and save more for a locker?

yea they use the same shafts so you should be alright, only thing you have to worry about with a 7.5 is stripping the ring gear....

as long as you dont get out raw hiding it 24/7 you should be alright.

you could weld your rear...if you like it, keep it. if not go to the 4.10 8.8 then throw a locker in it later

You can always cut out the spiders after welding, or you can just keep it welded, pull the carrier out and install another carrier....when you weld it, you weld the spiders to the idler spiders, not the axleshaft
SVT

mine you cant pull the spiders out...i welded the spiders to themselves and to the carrier...trust me it isnt gunna break with what i have now

ohh i see, im gonna give it a hard thinking lol
thanks for the input guys!

the breaking stuff is what worries me
and i guess mine wont be breaking stuff since its a 2.5 with stock gears, and i wont be rock crawling or anything hardcore
also i think im gonna be able to handle it on street driving

you should be ok....just get used to chirping and hopping when driving in like parking lots and stuff...gets alot of looks from people who dont understand what a spool does

im gonna talk to a couple guys who are pretty decent welders, cuz im not that experienced to mess with my diferential

thanks a lot for the input
im gonna post up if i do it
good luck :icon_welder:

do it...other people may you give you stupid looks and ask why, who cares...youll be happy with it

yeah as long it wont break anything and i dont go fishtailing while driving in rain lol

popping around a corner in the rain...yea she might want to slide out if your on the throttle at all but its not bad

are you 5 speed or auto?

lets see more of the build it was good

im working on it...bills are hitting me pretty hard right now but thanks to railman ive got some steel to play with and some tubeing so hopefully soon i can get some more work knocked out

its a 2.5 5spd with 3.73 and 30"s trust me its HARD to make it spin, so i guess the tires will help me
and i drive easy, just the ocassional showoff from time to time, and hell knowing i can end up looking to the opposite side of the street willkeep me from acting stupid lol
