the slo-vo build thread...

I hate Ford in every way shape and form, if it weren't for late 80's F-250's with gas engines, Bronco's and Rangers............ I'd never own a Ford I hate them they are POS.

I contemplated some of 'em.:icon_confused:
Though everything I ever had that had a set on it, were a royal pain in my 4th point of contact. Every dog gone time I decide to go wheelin, hotroddin, chickie hunting, dang things start leaking, then run and sound like crap. Had 'em on the '73 FJ40 with the 350 in it, only way exhaust would work, came lose. Had 'em on a '67 impala with a 427, came lose. Had 'em on a '74 corvette, came lose. HMM see a pattern here.
I tried every stinking locking gimick, super bolts, these won't come lose, these gaskets gonna keep the bolts from working out, these washers lock, blah, blah... Everything short of welding the dog gone things straight to the heads. I actually kind of screwed up a head in the FJ when the Header blew a hole and I went to weld it back up. It was right where the pipe come out of the flage that bolted to the hed, needless to say I was 17 and my welding habits was worse than now. No helmet, no goggles, doing the aim, squint, tunr the head, close the eyes and hope ya get it. Well ended up with part of the flange welded to the head. Made motor changing fun when I blew that one up. Where's that grinder???:icon_confused:
Yeah they flow awesome, they do what they're intended to, but not something I'd suggest running on a DD. too much maintenance. I'll stick with my ceramic coated, slightly ported manifolds my Brother Steve cleaned up when he built my motor. I'm getting 15-15.5 mpg running 33s and 3.73s. So can't be flowing too bad.
Good luck with 'em though, just promise me you won't infringe on the peace, quiet & tranquility of TB in a month or so on another trip with the headers poppin and cracking! Not that a bunch of hoopin and hollering overzealous tree scraping, rock crunchin, broken part cussing, over excited I made it through off roaders disturb anything!:shok:
:yahoo:
Get that thing together, you gotta be there saturday or my ass going to have to skip out on a cuple days work to come up and see ya. You said the garage was always open, I got a bedroll I take with me on my Hawg rides, so I can sleep next to your truck and keep 'er company when I come.
:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

i got a deal on them and i needed some exhaust work bad so figured while i had a straight shot at them i would throw em on...my explorer has a set on it too

i dont do loud exhaust, i like them nice and quiet with a decent rumble...will probably just keep the cheepo turbo muff on for now but i really like the way the magnaflow sounds on the expo

the cats will be gone, probably stopped up anyways with 158K on them

i did manage to break to manifold bolts...welded some nuts on them hopefully they will come out easy

ill be at TB regardless saturday but if im in the explorer ill have to play nice, dont want to tear it up

i wont know till friday if i have to work or not on saturday, but ive had to work the past 3 or 4 except for that holiday we had.

Slovo i might head out there sometime, cant say ill be much help but ill bring a case of beer cause im pretty good at drinkin and watchin people work while i criticize everything they do

KY give me a yell this week and come on over...ill be in the garage everynight after 3:30

Slo-Vo,
You been at it harder than I have again. Damn I never catch up.
That's cool shit, SHOP DOG!!!:headbang:
I see some welding/plating going on that frame? I see some jack stands too, guess you're safer than I was today doing my shackles. I had a floor jack with some nailed together boards lifting the back end up under the 2" receiver. Was too lazy to walk my butt to the front of the truck on the shop floor, pick 'em up and carry 'em to the back.
When you get 'er up again you should come down here and use my pressure washer, that engine looks gunking, then again it'll just open any leaks if you have them.
Yeah right take it easy in the sploder, that thing flexes pretty darn good!
