The Rare 95 2.3 L 4x4

I owned a 93' 2.3 4x4, and have seen 2 or 3 for sale in the past 2-3 years. It was a fun truck, and I got 21(towing/winter)-24.5 mpg(summer) w/ it constantly.

This variation was ONLY available in a reg cab, short bed model. 4.10's were pretty much standard.

I like those numbers! Personally I do more commuting than off-roading, in fact normally I used the 4wd to avoid going off-road in our beautiful wisconsin winters :icon_thumby:

Cool trucks tho, might hafta keep an eye out for more of these for my next Ranger!

ive contemplated switching my truck to a 2.3...good gas mileage and with the right gears and a doubler you can turn what size tires you want anyways. its not all about power

but of course ive had my share of expierance with the lima motor in my 86 svo mustang...tough as hell little motors and with the right shit can make all the power you want

The 2.3 in my '94 pushes the truck around just fine. If you're not using it as a tow rig, it's an ideal engine.

thats a nice little truck, id love to dd that thing...and turn my current rig into a trail $lut :D

So the other day I'm cruising Autotrader the other day and find this:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=272275756&dealer_id=64614595&car_year=1995&rdm=1265221078702&lastStartYear=1981&model=RANGER&num_records=25&systime=&make3=&make2=MAZDA&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1995&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=100&marketZipError=false&model2=B-SERIES&search_lang=en&sownerid=602064&showZipError=y&make=FORD&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceASC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceASC&address=53223&advanced=y&end_year=1995&doors=&transmission=Manual&max_price=&cardist=12&standard=false

So I noticed the truck is apparently a four-banger with four wheel drive... Pretty sure they didn't make 'em like that in 95 (or ever?), so I emailed the dealer saying the info must be wrong, either its not a 2.3 or not a 4x4.

He emails me back today with this:

Hi Kevin, All dealerships have what are called " vin number generators " which tell us specific info about the vehicle in question. In fact we have two vin # programs at Ryan motors. One is through AutoTrader and the other is through our operating system. Both of these systems tell me by the vin number for this truck is a four cylinder motor and 4x4 as well. Lastly that is what a inspection of the truck reveals. It is a 4 cylinder 4x4 truck as noted by the vin#. Due to the vin number calling out those options this truck was built by Mazda/Ford stock as it now sits. If your interested give me a call or stop by for a test drive. Thanks Tim

WTF? Is he pulling that out of his ass or did Ford/Mazda truly make this thing? :icon_confused:

Sorry bro but you made your self like like in idiot more than knowledgeable. The 4 banger 4x4 lasted until they came out with the 2.5

Yep I sure did on this one. But if I can't learn things the hard way I might as well not try to learn at all ha. :icon_thumby: In my defense I've never seen one in a year of searching on craigslist and other sites, so they must be somewhat rare.

i did saw one in Guatemala
it was a B2300 reg cab, base model even with steel rims and white paint, vinyl bench.
manual t-case and manual hubs

My dad has/has had several 2.3 4x4s, he likes that damn 2.3, I'll stick with the 4.0...
This variation was ONLY available in a reg cab, short bed model.
Actually we had a 2.3 4x4 Long bed, Vin Verified.. Now THAT's a rare truck..

I would buy that truck Jon....... if I didn't want a B2 so bad and if it was lower mileage.

I want a 4x4 4cyl Ranger so freaking bad it's insane!!!!!

But after getting a Bronco 2....... falling in love with it, then selling it less than a week later I have got to go with a B2 first.

I have a 1995 Ford Ranger XL with a 2.3 Lima I4 mated to an M5OD and a BG 13-54 for the four-wheel drive. Every feature is operated manually: the transmission, transfer case, locking hubs, and even the window cranks and door locks are engaged manually; moreover, it is a regular cab with a 4.10 differential, albeit it is a long-bed (seven-foot) configuration.
