The Lone Ranger – Kage’s ’94 X-Cab Leaf SAS and Bed Bob

Yikes.. I'm trying to keep mine under 5k lbs. With the tool box in and an empty bed mine was around 4800lbs on 1/2 tons before I tore it down.

with my truck loaded right up with every last odd and end i liked to carry and a full tank of gas it hit 4770. I'm scared to take the exp to the scale. i have been seriously debating not carrying a spare tire but that's just asking for a flat. also went thru my tools and took several out that really arent need that severly. and i may end up ditching my extra cable that i carry with me even tho it has came in handy a time or two.

3600 on the front:shok:.....

bought 6 k light cruise.

based on the past, with mid gear i will be over 7 k...last time i was hauling out people at the local shitholes i was 7400...big box and a 6.2 in the back with a 4l80....thought i was going to bust my frame where its rotted bad..

went home, dumped out the back and put on the big tires...and actually had traction issues from the back being too light:dunno:

makes me wonder about shit sometimes:D

I wouldn't mind freshening up this tranny while I have it out (I'd really like to throw a 4 banger gear set into it), but I don't think I'll be able to find the parts in time.

Ben, I have a 4 cyl M5 I'd be willing to part with if your still interested :icon_thumby:

2x4 or 4x4 Tranny?

We'll see how I feel once I get this thing pulled out this afternoon to see what's going on. Right now, I'm suffering from some severe motivational problems in regards to the truck. I'd really like all this 'stupid' crap to quit breaking.

:bawling::bawling::bawling: I know, quit my bitching and just fix it...

... Anyone want to buy a slightly used Ranger? :icon_twisted:

It's 2wd, but the gears will work in either. You will use your output shaft...

Thanks, but I'm going to pass and just get it back together for now. I've got other irons in the fire that need attention, so the Truck just needs to get to moving soon!

Flat Nasty Trip 12/31/11

Usually our little group heads out on New Years Day, but since it fell on a Sunday this year, we opted to head out to play on the New Years Eve instead. This turned out be a great choice as it was friggin nice that day (Made it into the low 60’s).

It had been over a year since the last time I’d made the trip down to Flat Nasty. The owner of the park has something to do with earth moving equipment, so he’ll change it up every now and then. Recently, he’d reworked trails 18 and 4 (creek trails) and made them awesome as they’re now a long continuous rock garden to play in. Since it was a ‘creek’, the gardens were very challenging as once you fell off a rock, you were sitting in silt which made for a zero traction situation. It was very easy to find yourself high centered if you weren’t careful (and I wasn’t).

Over all, we traveled over 5 miles in the park.

We then started working our way up to moon rocks. The ledge was too dug out for me to get my belly over it:

After giving up on that, we took the bypass up to moon rocks, which also denied me as it was dug out just enough that the truck would just sit on its belly. When I backed off from moon rocks, things got ugly quickly as I fell off a ledge sideways:

That was by far the closest I’ve ever come to dumping it over, and it would have sucked since we were at the top of a hill when it happened. I’m fairly certain that if it weren’t for the bead locks, it would have ripped that tire off the rim and dumped the truck over. I was very happy to have the winch at that point to make things less ugly!

After that fun, we headed over to the Moma/Papa/Baby bear falls for lunch and a show. There were some much bigger rigs than us playing around out there, so it was neat to watch them in action. Once they cleared out, we played around some:

As soon as I cleared that obstacle, my low pressure PS line blew (managed to pinch it somehow). Quick trial fix, and we were moving again.

We then moved on and played on trails 18 and 4 for the rest of the day:

(Hmmm.. I seem to be missing photos from then...)

What did you build your rear bumper out of and do you have any pictures of how it's mounted? Sorry to hear about all the bad luck with it but it looks really good!

Here's a link to that post:

If you look in the second photo, you can see what its mounted too. I made a cross brace that sits behind the BII tank that the bumper is welded too. I think that cross brace was 2x3x1/4 wall.

Hope that helps!

Just out of curiosity what height did you end up with on yours and how close do you think you are to clearing a 39.5x15?

Just out of curiosity what height did you end up with on yours...

Height of? I think I have all the various heights documented in this thread (use the 'search thread' function to look for them). If I'm missing one, let me know and I'll grab it.

.... and how close do you think you are to clearing a 39.5x15?

I would need to do some fender trimming, but otherwise they would fit fine. At worst, I would need to loose the plastic fender flares, but my exo/firewall have plenty of room to fit that rubber. Not that I can afford that kind of stuff :icon_twisted:

mmmmm.... JK and a Ranger.... perfect harmony

Well I’m a wee bit stumped at this point with my tranny/clutch problem. I’d post it up in the correct forum, but I think It’ll get more traffic here and I’m hoping someone has run across this as well.

What’s been changed:
  • Pilot bearing
  • Slave
  • Clutch Master & clutch line
  • Clutch has been changed in less than 10 k miles ago

What its doing:
  • Does not like to go into any gear from a dead stop. I can force it, or ‘slip’ the clutch a little and it’ll pop in. Occasionally it’ll go into gear just fine.
  • Clutch engagement feels better than it has in a long time (no air in the system). The clutch catches at about ½ the pedal throw, and the truck doesn’t try to creep forward so I’m fairly certain that the clutch is disengaging completely.

The last time the truck did this to me was right before I tore it apart to build it up this past February. When I had it torn down, it was obvious that the pilot bearing was done, so I did a clutch job and all that and rocked it for the past 10 k miles.

Now was acting the same way, but when I pulled everything apart, it all looked good. No leaks on the clutch system, pilot bearing was happy, and nothing funky was obviously going on. So I went ahead and replaced everything (except the clutch and pressure plate) and I’m having the same issues.

I don’t really know what the next step needs to be here. I’m fairly certain that I did not damage the Pilot bearing upon reinstall as the assembly went together pretty smooth when I stabbed the tranny back in.

Any ideas folks?

Right now I’m just going to park the damn thing on the street for a bit as I’m tired of it taking up all the room in my garage. If someone wants to shoot me an offer on it, I’ll consider it :annoyed:
