The Lone Ranger – Kage’s ’94 X-Cab Leaf SAS and Bed Bob

So that same arm should be more than enough length for my 44 since it worked on a 60. It doesn't seem long enough but I guess I will know for sure once my axle is slid in place

does anyone have a close up picture of this? been searching for 2 days now and cant find a single pic of someone who did this etup. you may be the pioneer in this design haha

not a pioneer.

seen it long before i ever tried it....and used the technique with fullsize trucks first.

what kage has here is what you want to save towards. though with a solid assist setup.

they have 5 leafs, i believe its for a 4" lift. i was gonna drop it down to 2 or 3 leafs.

but those are only 47". do you think that will flex better than a longer leaf?

I don't know really other then what I've seen from others running them.

I'm going to be stuck running a little shorter spring

Ugly Gas Tank Skid

I thought I had documented this earlier, but it looks like I skipped over it. Just a simple frame around the BII tank:

Slap some ¼” scrap plate on the bottom that I had laying around:

Then I promptly ignored finishing the skid and just wheeled it like that. Even with it hanging down kinda low, it was very rare for me to tag it. When I did, it was usually when climbing ledges/waterfalls.

A few of those waterfalls put me at such an angle that the gas tank was still in danger when I had to back up, so it was finally time to finish up the skid.

As it sat:

One more piece of 5/16”

And now its ready for some more abuse!

ugly??

looks bad ass to me:dunno:

The skid is functional, that's all that matters. How did you attach it at the frame?

I've yet to build mine. You'd think the dents in my tank would be motivation enough to get it done. haha

Well this....
And..... No offense but I wouldnt exactly call your truck pretty anyways. I love the ranger! No doubt. But it's not exactly a pretty one. :D

Definetly not the prettiest thing I've ever built. So its ugly

Now that just hurts :thefinger: I do get a giggle when looking at the earlier photos of the truck. It was so nice and pretty in the beginning, now its just a wee bit more banged up :icon_rofl:

The 4 upright tubes sit on the bottom of the frame. Off of those tubes there are some flanges that bolt through the side of the frame in the rear, and off of my shock cross member in the front.

I don't usually hit that skid, but when I do, I hit it HARD. So far its holding up just fine.

We headed out to Flat Nasty Yesterday, and I'm waiting for some photos from that run to be posted up before I post them over here. The truck prefromed well, but I still can't drive worth a poo since I nearly dumped it on its lid, and it spend quite a bit of time high centered on stuff

Still waiting on a few more photos before I get a post up about our Flat Nasty Trip.

I ran the truck across the scale in 'trail ready' condition (trail tools, etc), it weighed in at 6,130 lbs with a 3/4 tank of fuel (3,200 lbs on the front axle). Wee bit heavier than I thought it was going to be when I started this build.

It also looks like I get to have the pleasure of pulling my tranny again as apparently the pilot bearing has shit the bed (Clutch acts fine, just doesn't want to go into gear). It acts just like it did the last time it spit out a pilot bearing. :annoyed:

I wouldn't mind freshening up this tranny while I have it out (I'd really like to throw a 4 banger gear set into it), but I don't think I'll be able to find the parts in time.

Wow that's a lot more then I figured, no telling what mine is going to weigh then.

Yep, that's pretty heavy. I don't remember my vehicular conditions (tube doors/tool box/etc) but the last time I rolled across a scale I weighed in at 4200lbs.

I want to say the curb weight stock was around 3,800 lbs. Then add in:

~300 lbs worth of tube for the cage
~ 1,000 lbs worth of axles
~ 600 lbs worth of tires/wheels
~430 lbs worth of skids/winch/tools

..everything starts to add up. I was still a bit surprised when I saw that number pop up though.

damn. That is a lot. D was right around 4600 when they hauled it home. I have no clue on the big boy.
