How do you reset the idle air control, once you replace it, or does it do it on it's on...

you just bolt on the new one with a new gasket and plug in the electrical connector. i don't think you can "reset" it. idk, i could be proven wrong cuz i've never actually replaced mine, just cleaned it...

you may want to disconnect the negative battery cable for a while and then reconnect it in order to reset the computer.
that way the engine will re-learn the proper idle speed.
 
what is the best way to clean the valve
 
no need to unplug the battery, the PCM will figure it out on its own.

to clean the IAC, i usually use a small brush (a toothbrush could work) and brake cleaner (the kind that causes cancer, not the wussy chlorine free stuff). i also grab the shaft inside the valve with a pair of needle nose and unseat it so the brake clean can clean the sealing surface of the valve.
