The Gutless Wonder

Another "back from the dead" post with not much to update you on. I had trouble getting the truck into any gear after it had sat for a while, and it would occasionally act up while driving it. Looked online to find out it was most likely my Slave Cylinder, picked up one at work, along with stuff to replace all of the brake components on the passenger side (rotor, caliper, wheel bearings and wheel seal) and have gotten to work. Finally got the transmission out yesterday... to find there was a MOUSE nest covering the pressure plate and slave. I guess I know where they've been nesting all summer long -_-.

So that has to go back together sometime soon. Busy during the weeks between classes and working 30-35 hours a week.

Oh, and I bought some '02 style manual mirrors on Rock Auto; I've always wanted to replace the flag mirrors, they suck.

Cool, get some pics of the mirrors when u install them, they look way better than the flag ones

Will do! Debating doing the 2006 tail lights at some point too. Also will be adding the 1995-1997 2WD Grille; I hate the one that's on my truck. I'm thinking this will become my year round daily driver due to some unfortunate events that have happened to my car.. which I care too much about to let it be subjected to people's stupidity.

Truck is back together now, just have to bleed the clutch.

Mirrors are on as well, and I FINALLY got off my lazy ass and installed my second foglight.

Ordered some OEM Replacement headlights off of eBay, mine are yellow and look like hell, plus hopefully I'll get some better light ouput out of these.

So here's where I'm at. I know bleeding the clutches in these trucks is difficult, but I was at it for 2 hours tonight and got nowhere. Hooked up a clear hose to the bleeder on the slave cylinder, and put the other end in a little jar full of brake fluid. Got fluid to come through the bleeder to where it looked like all air was out, but I have absolutely NO pedal.

Suggestions and tips on the bleeding process?

Bench bleeding is the only way. You need to get the master at an angle that wont trap air.

My buddy had this problem with his explorer. used the hoist to only pick up the front of the truck so it was on a big angle to let the air pocket out

What i always do is pull back the carpet, and cover the floor with a rag or something, then i take out the snap ring that holds the pedal push rod in the master cylinder, pull the rod out (fluid will splash a little), then put it all back together. An air bubbke always gets trapped in there, this method has worked on all of my rangers.

At this point I'm pretty sure my Master Cylinder is bad. So I'm going to get one from work and throw it in. I'm going to be really upset if that's what was causing my issues this whole time, and I replaced the Slave Cylinder for no reason. -_-

In other news, I got my replacement headlights in and they look SO much better than the yellowed ones that were on there.

My question though, is where can I find the OEM Style Fluted clear corners? The ones that look just like the headlights. I can't find them anywhere. If I can't find a set of those, I'm just going to go back to the amber corners.

I had the same problem with my explorer.... I ended up having to pull my trans twice and replacing my master and slave and line... took me about 30 minutes to bleed... and getting the system to burp was deffinately a pain in the arse...
