The gun thread...

Question

I always liked the look of the old double barrel 12ga shotguns (break open side-by-side long barrels) where can I find info on these (makes, models, etc)?

No guns at the moment (college likes me for my money :bawling:) but I have a few bows.

I can't tell what the markings are besides the waffenamts. Did you see what it said on the reciever?

Just google it, there are a few companies that make them still. There are still plenty of the old ones left too.

Does anyone else feel a bit paranoid about posting their firearms on the web?

I don't think there is too much harm in it...

I would caution against anyone wanting to fire both barrels of their double barrel shotgun, at the same time. Resist the urge, I ruined my old Savage-Stephens model 311 20ga. - was kinda fun til the stock cracked.

Don't know if I would want to fire both at once, something tells me I would feel it. :black_eye:

Thanks for the info.

As far as the Mauser goes, like I said before, I can't tell what the markings say next to the waffenamts. The easiest and quickest way to tell the maker and year it was made is by looking at the top of the reciever.

This is an example of what it probably looks like.

The mauser pictured above was manufactured by Waffenwerke Bruenn at the Bruenn plant which I believe is in Czechoslovakia. Made in 1941

The manufacturer code is usually a few letters, or a combination of letters and numbers. In the pic, dot is the mfg. code. Sometimes it could be S/42 or something like that. Sometimes a date is located below the mfg. code. The waffenamts should also have a code (numbers or letters) in or near them, but the reciever is the main piece of the puzzle.

EDIT: I guess I should have realized this before... The scope mount is covering the mfg. codes on the top of the reciever...

Yeah, I get a little paranoid. Then I think about all of the gun forums there are and all the pics people have on those sites and it puts me at ease. One thread shouldn't hurt.
