The Ford Maverick is coming June 8th

This little truck interested me until I heard they would only do quad cab and minuscule bed. That bed size wouldn't work for me.

I'm however happy that Ford released such a truck, the overall size makes way more sense that most of what is currently on the market and IMO looks way better than Hyundai's version.

If it does well they might expand its offerings too.

They said that with the Ranger too but then about the time for the next gen to come out a std cab longbed is spotted in heavy camo.

With the new specs being released, this little truck is looking like more fun than the Ranger has been for decades. Spec one out with AWD, 2.0 EB, throw some wide wheels and sticky tires on it, and HAVE FUN!

Usually xlt is anything (2wd or 4wd) but you need xlt 4x4 trim before getting fx4... never seen anything in an XL package with fx4, but also never seen an AWD called an FX4 so who the heck knows.

As @Blmpkn stated our FX4 is an XL. When you pick the FX4 option, with a XL, Ford includes the STX option.

So... you won't see an FX4 that is labeled XL...

It's complicated..

One way to tell an XL is to look at the Multi Function Display in the center of the dash. If it's an XL, it doesn't have the big touch screen.

I am shocked by the amount of chatter the Maverick has made.

Have you seen the number of views and comments on YouTube this thing has?

It's going to be everywhere.

When it's closest competitor (ridgeline) STARTS at nearly 2x the price... I agree. Were gonna see quite a few of them. When I first heard about the Maverick I thought it was stupid..but.. seems like it should be a solid vehicle for a certain group of people.

Two things that stick in my head:

1. That a Prius owner over at Jalopnik said that the Maverick gets the same mileage, has more capabilities, and is 4K cheaper.

2. I'm hoping the Maverick will correct the price on used Rangers. I've seen $17,000 for a 2011 on car gurus.

I didn't even think about the prius, that's a good point.

And yeah used rangers are crazy. Truck prices period are crazy. I think it'll have an effect... but probably not one big enough.

The closest competitor is the Hyundai Santa Cruz - which has a comparable price.

Is it going to be the new compact truck (luv/courier/hilux/520) and sell like hot cakes? Or just latest take on the compact coupé utility (rampage, baja) which after the 1st 10k sold to that niche market they couldn't give away?

We will learn shortly...

Note: I was surprised Ford let Hyundai have the high ground on specs - power 250 vs 281hp, torque 277 vs 311 ft.lb (both for optional engines), payload 1,600 vs 1,748lbs, towing 2k vs 3,500 for FWD/4k vs 5k for AWD. Full comparison: https://www.motortrend.com/cars/for...erick-vs-hyundai-santa-cruz-specs-comparison/

Ford obviously has an issue with Maverick encroaching on Ranger spec; it would be embarrassing for the compact truck having more capability than the mid size one.

Don't forget, Hyundai says only 800 pounds of that payload fits in the bed. The rest is in the cab.

Yeah, definitely not a dedicated hauler for sure. If you fill the bed to the top with sod , it'll be obvious at that time of what it can handle.
