“Mystery” planes emitting green lights in New River Valley

They have been spotted all over the New River in Radford, Fries, Montgomery, Giles and Pulaski Counties.

Looks like something similar to LIDAR.

Drones are sometimes used for that as well. That's one of the things I was thinking when I heard about the drones, but I who ever was doing that would be likely to talk about it or announce it before hand.

I don't think LIDAR scanners would follow Coast Gaurd boats in groups.

No, I was saying that LIDAR is what @RangerNumber3's link sounds like. That sounded like it was mapping a river. The green light the video shows is similar to what is seen when someone is using a laser scanner to make a 3D model of a room, or atleast that's what they show in some of the archeology and history documentaries.

I was merely notating that drones do get used for LIDAR scans, and that (or some sort of mapping) was one of my first thoughts when I heard about the Drone thing up there. I haven't followed this story any more than what's in this thread, but I agree that it isn't likely what is going on.

Wouldn't put it past them. First Alcohol, then Weed, now the EPA after modified project vehicles.

No, you shoot them down you still get in trouble. Take your own drone and drop a small tree branch on the revenuers whirly bird from above... and everybody just makes fun of the revenuer pilot.
