The Drones

I don't know why after all this time the State Police hasn't put a chopper in the air to shadow one of these drones and see where they go.

That sounds reasonable.

Our satellites could easily track them by their lights back to their base but they’re probably busy in the Mideast.

If they are not US military... it kinda speaks volumes to how prepared we are for drone attacks like goes on overseas.

I would have thought anything operating out where the Coast Guard works should probably have transponders to identify friend or foe or something like that. If they couldn’t be identified, I think the Coasties should have “neutralized the threat”.

I know the US has drones, but I don't think the US is prepared for others with drones. From the sounds of it, another country could send a swarm of drones over here and the government won't care unless the start shooting people. Could these drones be flying low, hacking into people's Wi-Fi and stealing info? Who knows.

You have to have a license to fly a drone that big, and I feel like there should be some laws to keep them from being a nuisance.

They may be legal to fly and therefore law enforcement can't do anything, but there's more here than flight law.

When I was a police officer in Ohio, we used to write a ton of violations for disorderly conduct (ORC 2917.11):

(A) No person shall recklessly cause inconvenience, annoyance, or alarm to another by doing any of the following:

(1) Engaging in fighting, in threatening harm to persons or property, or in violent or turbulent behavior;

(2) Making unreasonable noise or an offensively coarse utterance, gesture, or display or communicating unwarranted and grossly abusive language to any person;

(3) Insulting, taunting, or challenging another, under circumstances in which that conduct is likely to provoke a violent response;

(4) Hindering or preventing the movement of persons on a public street, road, highway, or right-of-way, or to, from, within, or upon public or private property, so as to interfere with the rights of others, and by any act that serves no lawful and reasonable purpose of the offender;

(5) Creating a condition that is physically offensive to persons or that presents a risk of physical harm to persons or property, by any act that serves no lawful and reasonable purpose of the offender.

People have complained about the noise they make at night.

I could also make Inducing Panic 2917.31 work:

(A) No person shall cause the evacuation of any public place, or otherwise cause serious public inconvenience or alarm, by doing any of the following:

(1) Initiating or circulating a report or warning of an alleged or impending fire, explosion, crime, or other catastrophe, knowing that such report or warning is false;

(2) Threatening to commit any offense of violence;

(3) Committing any offense, with reckless disregard of the likelihood that its commission will cause serious public inconvenience or alarm.

(B) Division (A)(1) of this section does not apply to any person conducting an authorized fire or emergency drill.

(C)(1) Whoever violates this section is guilty of inducing panic.

These drones are causing people to be alarmed and are a public inconvenience.

You’d just need an arrest drone and one of those big rope net cannon things mounted on it. Yee-haw 😁

That’s about where I’m at with it…

Using firearms would be a lot more iffy. Potato gun seems appropriate and entertaining.

I built mine years ago using the basic model instructions from here:

4" length of PVC pipe, a reducer with a much longer piece of 2" PVC, 4" screw cap on the bottom, BBQ grille igniter wired to two drywall screws in the 4" section placed close enough to spark. Starting fluid is the ideal fuel. I can get 300 yards with a tater.

I haven't built an actual potato cannon yet, but I have parts for one.

What I have built is a pair of air cannons. Fill them up with the compressor. The big one was a 2' long section of 4" PVC, reducer to 2" and a 2" ball valve, then a thread-on barrel. I have a 4' long 2" barrel, 4' long 1.5" barrel, and a 3' long 1.5" barrel, all three of which fit either cannon. The little cannon is a 1' long piece of 4" PVC with a reducer to 2" and a 2" ball valve. Pretty impressive what the big one is capable of on 90 PSI, I only tried that once and it about launched a 12 ounce weight into low orbit. It went at least 200' straight up if not more. More horizontal and my neighbors would probably be within range...

Maybe the drones are a 'look over there' while we do something else over here.

National security advsor John Kirby says the reports of drones can't be confirmed, I'd suggest he watch a few of the videos I've seen on the national news. I would not like those things flying over my house, not that there's anything interesting here they'd want to see...

tax assessors use them.
built a new shed out of sight from the road to store parts? no problem, we'll add it to your list.
pushed the parts car out for a few days to make space? no problem there either.

if we have the technology to receive signals from Voyager 1 which is a billion miles away just imagine where the drones info goes.
and how quick it gets there, and how detailed it can be.
add in a good dose of AI for some real shenanigans.
