I think that's 225C. I just looked it up and I found 437F.

Using flaxseed oil to season cast iron pans is a growing trend. Flaxseed oil has a very low smoke point—at just 225 degrees F—which means it's quick to polymerize into a layer of seasoning.

I think there's a great lesson here re: believing what you read on the internet, and I like to think of myself as being extra careful with this kind of stuff. I found a half dozen more in my top search results but this is what my phone browser spits out when I search for "flaxseed oil smoke point."

Funny enough, it then says it's "unsuitable for high heat cooking" but I had found another page last night with the same (probably wrong) info.

So, I guess I stand corrected, and I must have found the same info years ago when I was looking for new seasoning oil to try. Someone (or some computer) must have swapped the F for a C and now a third of web pages have incorrect info.

Still works very well as a seasoning oil though, but I'll no longer pretend to understand why . Happy non-stick cooking!

Just a word of caution, don't trust any Google assistant answers. Case in point, here's their response from just a few moments ago.

As you can see, this time it's showing the 225°F temperature for the smoke point. Very different answer from the response you got.
