The Black Bomb

yeah yeah... hit me up one weekend and ill swing by the yard...always ready to get the jeep muddy

You do anything to it or is it still running stock everything?

And now to the news/updates------

This weekends project: fixing the wiring issue, the squeaking speedo cable (or wheel bearing), and possibly finishing the metal swap on my other truck. Also might put on new rear tires.

Update.

Fixed the fuse issue: hood light wire was loose and on the fender.

New problem(s) : Need to repack wheel bearings and find out if my truck leaks thru the floor.

New upgrade : New rear tires on monday hopefully.

Lack of pictures due to classes when it is nice out.

Hey,

Not sure where you are in NJ but I swear I saw that exact truck at a Wendy's near Deptford NJ.

Glad to see your makin progress

Well, I know there is one other one like it around. I wish I bought it.

Update: Entered a sound competition at school, didn't win but I didn't get boo'd. Used, 2 Wally world brand 4" front and 6 1/2" rear speakers and 2 pepboys special 800w 10" subs, all set up the morning before.
Sold the subs at the end of the day and getting 2 12" Alpines with amp next week and will know more about them tomorrow. Scratch the subs. Parts truck comes first.
New tires going on, hopefully tomorrow.
I also really need a new fuel sender.

Update: Cleaned the IAC, repacked the whining outer wheel bearings, put on the 86-87 throttle body and I might be getting a parts truck soon. Will an 1990 extended cab work with a 88 interior?

Future projects(if the plan works out) :
17 gallon plastic fuel tank swap
And cab swap with blue painted interior

Picking up the parts truck tomorrow night. Disassembly will begin Halloween weekend. Truck will be reborn as a v8 truggy. Also taking the Ranger to the Barrens cleanup on sunday. (I will have pics tomorrow)

If I wasn't feeling like crap I'd come up and see this thing. Be sure to post a ton of pics so I can see what I missed. Thanks.

I didn't get any pics of the trip. We were mostly picking up shit. Sorry.

I lied about updating the pictures. I am a lazy SOB. I promise you new pics next weekend.
****Update time:
Bought a 1990 Ranger and picked it up on saturday. I am afraid to rip it apart because it is in really good condition. I am using the 8.8 (if it is a ls) and/or D35 and hoping the gears are 3.73 (will check). I am also doing the gas tank swap

--Todays problem: Screeching from front end when braking. Fixed by removing the disc brake cover thing. Also tightened the wheel bearing while I was at it which fixed my left front vibration.

---Next weekends to-do list:
Remove stripped bolts on the brackets for the aluminum tube bumper;
Put on a real steel bumper;
Wish I had money for an exploder;
find a 1st or 2nd gen extended cab skin and at least get it off to the side (junkyard search);
run a load or 2 of scrap to the junkyard and maybe a quick run to a core buyer to off some junk aluminum wheels.

ALSO See my new add I am posting in the For Sale section. Time to let stuff go.

Yea. No pics again but I got a good alternator. No more engine whine through the radio and the HD part of it works better from what I can tell.:yahoo: Probably going to pic up a new radio this week too. BUT...

:annoyed:Bad news: Needs a headgasket. Engine is sipping some coolant so around Dec, I will end up parking it again unless I can get it fixed over Thanksgiving break. It is the drivers side head, 5&6. Sparkplugs hinted at it, some water in the exhaust sealed it. Going to try stop leak to slow it down.
Is it possible to do it without removing the exhaust manifold?

Nope, you have to either remove the manifold, or fight it and remove the down tube.

Robert

Yep....Unfortunately, You've gotta remove it. Are you sure it's not the head itself? What you found could go both ways between a diagnosis of a bad head or gaskets.:sad:

Worst part is the exhaust bolts, but on the flip side, IF you do brake some, you'll already have the head out to drill and remove the broken bolts.

Seem like I always break at least one when I remove a head from something.

New update.

Alternator did not work out as planned. Reason for no noise? It just didn't work. Was stranded on the side of the Jersey Turnpike until my dad could run me the other alternator.

Will have a rebuilt alternator by turkey day, head gasket will be done over christmas and the lift I am planning to do will be done around there too. Might even do a fuel sending unit somewhere in there too.

lol ur havin more problems than i can keep up with. u wanna help install my body lift in january?

If I have time. Gonna be busy in January. Need to get 2 projects done by February. It's a personal goal.
