The Black Beauty's Bumper.

Good friday = Good day to cope my bumper, and that's exactly what I did. More progress after wednesday of next week,

Back on days off again, expecting to get the bumper completed or near completion this time.

Laid out lugs today out of 3/4''

I had my doubts when I first saw this, but I probably didn't read much on it either. Was relieved to see the cut-out marks on down the thread in the second pic. It's pretty dang sweet.

Haha I'm a Journeyman Red Seal welder by trade, :icon_welder:, I work for a company that manufactures well servicing rigs. I just enjoy it that much i guess :yahoo:

Anyways I haven't made much progress, I came up with a more sleek lug design as well i'm going to use, it's half the sizes of the previous ones with a few more angles. I just have to weld my bumper back together now, i trimmed the shape out with my grinder and reused the corners i had bent from the bottom to keep the tube radius and tacked it right back on, come up with a stinger, cut out for my reciever tube and stiffen up the tube with 1/2 flatbar tying into the reciever tube. I don't want my winch coming off. This thing is going to be solid.

How did you determine how much to cut out to bend it?

I took a rough measurement directly around the front of the truck with a measuring tape, had my buddy hold the tape right on the very end of the bumper between the tire on the driver's side and I held it to the passenger side, it ended up being about 7'-1/2'' so I figured i'd start with 8' because each bend you put in a piece of tube, shortens it's overall length. I ended up with about of 1'' excess on both sides that just needs to be trimmed off and welded. :icon_welder:

More progress from today, I now have the tube radius welded on the bottoms, I have cut my receiver tube hole, and welded stiffeners inside where i'm going to mount my 3/4'' lugs. I'm not quite sure if i'm going to leave the receiver tube where it is, or push it further back, it does stick out quite a bit there, but I don't have alot a room on the backside of the bumper between the truck to put the pin in my receiver tube (well that's a lie, i haven't really looked at it yet. Only had a propane torch to cut with lol

Thanks, I figured it out :icon_thumby: Still deciding how I'm going to tie in the ends.
Your build is awesome by the way! Have you decided how your going to mount it yet?

Haven't worried about it as of yet, Im going to push the reciever tube flat to the bumper, and have it stick out only 1'', I'm probably going to use heavy angle iron, 1/4'' and wrap around the stupid frame horns and extend out the frame with a plate on each side, OR i might use the existing bumper mounting holes but i'll have to do so fiddle ****ing with my bumper as the 5 degree angle i cut directly in the centre throws it completely out of wack. See my whole intention was to have the bumper sitting at the stock height, so with very minimal gaps outwards and downwards off my truck etc, I want to keep everything tight. I'm picky.

Yeah I was going to have a front receiver, but decided to go another route with the future winch. I have 1/4" angle that i am intending on using to mount the bumper with. I already cut my frame horns off.. Kinda thinking on having the angle bolted to the outside of the chassis. I also want to keep the bumper at stock height, but if i do I'll have to do A LOT of fender trimming.. unless i don't wrap the bumper around.

More progress today, I am changing a few things with my design (lugs and stinger) and I finished pretty much all of the welding/cleaning today, was trying to mount it as well but just didn't have a really good idea of how. Probably going to end up chopping my existing ears, and plate it directly to the frame. I dunno here's how she sits until monday.

How it started today

Trying to mount it, needed more steel :P The driver's side needs to come up about a 1/4''
