It all has to start somewhere….So I started pulling it apart this weekend. I’m replacing all the ball joints, u joints, spindle bearings and more importantly re-gearing to 4.88s! I paid $300 for the truck and had originally planed on leaving it stock but my brother gave me a set of 33x10.50’s so I had to lift it! I didn’t plan on doing much off roading so I just got the cheapest lift (rough country)…in hind site I wish I got the skyjacker but oh well. So it’s been about a year since I lifted it and now want a more capable off roader but I am on a budget so I gotta do one pricey thing at a time so I chose the gears. Its got 3.73’s and is a dog on with the 33” tires so I’m upgrading to 4.88”s. eventually I’ll put lockers, extended radius arms, body lift and build some bumpers but all in due time :D here are a few pics…I will update as I go

So my plans for re-gearing just got flushed! The place that was going to do the work originally quoted me $550 an axle decided that they miss quoted and now it is going to be $790! :icon_surprised:That’s just too much for me at the moment…oh well :annoyed: On a happier note I picked up a lunch box locker and a set of manual hubs:icon_thumby:

I also replaced my 3/4" worth of stacked and welded washer coil spacer for this 1 3/8" ex-machine part:D I'm hoping the front will be level now:icon_thumby:

pay for shipping and i will install the front gears and locker for $100 haha thats a shity deal. 790 sounds very excessive is that for both or one axle

That price is per axle regardless if the axles are still on the truck or not. I have always done my own work on all my vehicles and this is a prime example why….guess I’ll have to pick up another pig at the junk yard and figure out how to do it myself:icon_thumby:

790 per axle??

A year or two ago, I found a guy to do them for like 250-300 an axle, but I ended up doing them myself....

Looking good man. You oughtta fab up your own radius arms, it's easy!

Looks good.

I would get rid of that drop plate for the passenger beam ASAP. That WILL punch a hole in your diff.

damn im doing 4.56 gears in my buddys 96 f-150 for 100 per axle 790 is way too high

I installed the locker last night and and started gettin it all put back together:headbang:

picked up these chevy leaves for $40:D now that I sold my tacoma I need to get a more family friendly DD then I can install them:icon_thumby:
