So, I had to replace my drivers side rear axle shaft a week ago. Well, when I took the drum off there was a spring with both sides sheared off just sitting in the bottom of the drum. What the hell? So I got a hardware kit to replace all the springs and there was a similar looking spring in the bag. Since I couldn't find anything out on the internets I decided to take a look at my other drum brakes hoping to see where the spring went.

Guess what? Same damn spring, both sides sheared off just sitting in the bottom of the drum. :bawling:

Here is a pic of the spring, if anyone knows where this spring goes I would be very appreciative of the information!!!

Doesn't look sheered off to me, looks like a new spring.

Flip it around and it hooks onto the brake shoes just above the adjuster. I can't recall which holes it fits into off the top of my head though. Just make sure it doesn't contact the prongs on the adjuster.

I want to say it fits into the smaller hole above the right side of the adjuster and onto the adjacent hole on the left. Draw a line between them and if should just pass through the hub just under the stud there. Flip it around though first.

I'd also do some more looking around as to why it keeps falling off.

Hey, appreciate the help. BTW that is the new spring. The two old springs have both "hooks" sheared clean off.

It goes towards the bottom...you can see it in this pic.

a PIC truely IS worth 1000 words.

The red spring lives BEHIND the adjuster.
