I'm fixing to drop the FM145 trans in my 87 2.9 ext cab 4x4. I replaced the trans but didn't replace the slave cylinder. After (much) bleeding, I never could get any pedal. I replaced everything else. Flywheel turned down, new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, new master cylinder and about 4 bottles of DOT 3. I'm thinking the only thing left is the slave cylinder.

After I take out the old slave cylinder, is there a way I can check or test it to confirm that it was bad?

Is there fluid in the bell housing? Sure sign that it is bad.

It's a good idea to replace the slave whenever the trans has been taken off. Get the highest quality one you can. Be sure to bench bleed the clutch master with the master tilted back as you bleed since this is the most common reason for lack of full pedal after bleeding. It's almost impossible to get the air out of the master by bleeding it while on the truck.:icon_thumby:
