I'm testing the coil pack on my 94 4.0L.... stupid question time........

On my multi meter when reading ohms I have 5 different settings.
200
2000
20K
200K &
2000K

When I check the secondaries using 20K I get a reading of 13.15ohms (between 1&5)(2&6)(3&4) specs are 6,000-30,000

So just to verify I do not need a new coil pack, 13.15 using the 20K setting is translating 13.1500 (thousand ohms) Am I correct?
If so this would put me well within specifications... right?

My primaries on each pin are reading 1.0-1.5 ohms using 200 ohm setting.
Again all with within specs (less then 2 ohms each)

I have a no start, I've been trying to track down the culprit. I'm swapping motors and it's almost out of the downer vehicle so the wiring harness is disconnected so all I can do is dry bench test components.

I just want to make sure I'm on the right track.....

Thanks for your indulgence,

Wasp

A coil pack can ohm out fine and still be bad. If you have no spark I'd start by checking the power to the coil itself. There is one power wire for all of them and then 1 ground for each pack going to the PCM. The PCM then cuts ground to fire a coil. If you have one cyl not firing and think it might be a coil issue swap the paired wires and see if it the miss moves. If so, its the coil.

The coilpack seems fine. Check the connection to the crankshaft position sensor.

Here's the site I've found to help me troubleshoot my system. In the Chilton manual I have, the procedures are printed so small you could put a whole pages on a pin head, plus it's confusing without diagrams to go along with the descriptions. My Haynes is a little better but deals mostly with B2's.

The Crank sensor is alongside crank pulley at the front of the engine correct? There is a cut wheel, looks like a gear with a tooth missing. Am I looking in the right place? I've found the module on the inside of the rad support.

I have two awesome bone yards in my area with loads of rusted out explorers. I'll be able to score anything I need there.

Pisses me off all those cash for clunker explorers went straight to the crusher.... I hear because of that, the bone yards are charging more for certain parts.

Bloody government............:annoyed:

Thanks for your help,

Wasp
