Hi, my engine rebuild is almost complete and ready to start. It is currently open headers right now and was wondering if there were any suggestions on making it quiet during cam break in. I live in a residential area and dont want the cops called lol. I also dont want to spend money on a new muffler just for the cam break in.

Why are you anticipating it being particularly loud?

Edit: Sorry, missed the open headers reference...

Wait to break it in. Build your exhaust system first.

So put that in before firing up the engine.

Also, you could perform the break-in at an hour when it won't bother as many people. Most towns and cities have set hours where excessive noise is no longer acceptable after a certain time. Usually 9 or 10pm.

Maybe invite the neighbor over for some beers, or warn them in advance when you plan to perform the break-in.
