Hey guys! I have a 1997 2.3l ranger and I'm having trouble with finding the temp sensors I have found 2 and there right on top of the engine one just before the thermostat housing with 2 wires going into it and one on the thermostat housing with 2 wires in to it and I have one more that I can't find and it has a what looks like a threaded rod on in so it looks like one wire goes into it I'm told that there are three sensors/senders on this truck but the last ones a mystery soo I need help finding it thanks in advance for the help

I have the 2.3L engine that's a diagram for the V6

It only has two coolant temp senders.
One drives the gage in the dash, the other reports temp to the PCM.

Period, end of story.

That's what I thought too clearly ford dealers don't know there cars very well oh well thanks for the help tho!

Vehicles with transverse mounted engines often have 3 coolant temp sensors.
Ranger/B2300 ain't one :)
1 wire "sender"(threaded rod) is for the dash board temp gauge, this is the same type of sender that has been used since there were dash board temp gauges.

2 wire sensor(ECT) is the "choke" sensor, these were added for fuel injected engines, since they have no carb or jets a choke plate can not be used, this sensor tells the computer when engine is cold so it will run engine rich with advanced timing until it warms up.

Another 2 wire sensor(also ECT) is used in the rad on vehicles equipped with electric fans, it turns the fan on and off according to coolant temp in the rad.
