latley my temp. guage is way higher than it normally is its above the line for hot, and them will go down and up but will stay way up there... could this just be a bad guage becuse performance or anything isnt affected

I'd replace the sending unit, they are only like $5 and do go bad. Try that and go from there since you said it still runs fine. Pull codes just to be sure nothing else going on.

i did buy a new mechanical gauge becuase i figured that it might be that but where is the senidng unit so i can install the probe, i know there is two connections on the radiator fill up tube is it one of them

The sending unit is on the intake manifold. It is towards the front of the engine closest to the radiator.

There's actually two in the front of the engine in the lower intake manifold. One is the sending unit - 1 wire drivers side front of the intake. The other is the engine coolant temperature sensor - 3 wire (I think) passenger side front of the intake. The ECT is a lot more tricky to get to..

While you're at it, maybe a new thermostat would be good too.

& as others stated those sending units do go bad...specify the one for the dash...pretty sure that would be the one on the right side of the thermostat/intake,(as you look at the front of the truck.

I had a bad body ground cable do that to me once.

hmm, well some more info.. i didn't have heat for a while and them my radiator cracked and i got a new radiator, hoses, and t stat, installed.. i still have no heat after this.. so i think i might just bring it in again and have them look at the heat and the temp sensor too?!

Correct, except it is 2wire on ECT. Just changed mine tonight.

Just feel the heater hoses and upper and lower radiator hoses and see how hot they are...should give you a good idea.

Wow, fair bit of repair...how about waterpump?? was it replaced too??
do you still have the factory fan? (Some have got to electric fans).

If I understand correctly...you're not getting heat inside the cab..yes? then it the heater core may need to be flushed out. AS Natedog mentioned...feel the heater hoses....if one is warm and the other is cooler...the heater core is plugged/shot. they tend not to be tooo pricy & if it has some age on it..it maybe best to replace.

Does your windshield fog up when driving down the road after 5-10 min & or smell kinda sweet? If yes to either...then definatly replace the heater core.

If the raditaor hoses have significatly temp difference after fully, or nearly so, warmed up then suspect the waterpump, if it hasn't been changed.

hope that helps
