I have the '94 4L B4000 auto. I bought it used a few months ago in the
summer and it seemed to run fine. Now that the cold weather is here I am
having a few issues which I think are all related:
1. It will not shift out of 2nd until you have let it warm up for 10-15
minutes. This is when the outside temperature is above 32. When it is below
32, it takes even longer.
2. I cannot get any heat into the truck. The flap between COLD and HOT
seems to be switching over as you can hear the click that it makes.
3. The temp gauge rarely goes over the C or 1/4 C mark. No matter how long
i drive it, it will not get up to normal running temp. The gauge does
fluctuate sporatically ... it will jump to 3/4 HOT then drop right back down
to 1/4 C within a 15 second span for no apparent reason.
4. It is getting horrendous gas mileage which I assume has something to do
with it running so cold.
5. the truck really has no pull at all. if I mat the pedal at 40mph it just chugs and slowly makes its way up to 60.
I did a tranny flush before I noticed the temperature issue. Since, then I
have replaced the thermo w/ gasket and that has not fixed the problem either.
I have noticed a few things when doing the thermo install.
1 - the existing thermo was fully extended when i took it out. what does
that mean?
2 - the 2 hoses running from the engine into the cabin are very cold. They
have no flex in them and no heat whatsoever.
3 - the connector to the temp sensor is corroded and does not sit on snug.
Could this be causing the issue?
Any ideas or info as to what my next step would be?
Thanks!
