Everything was working fine except no heat blowing out. I had read about blowing the heater core to clear any clogs. Blew out the core and some rust chunks came out, poured some water in the tubing to the core and flushed it several times then hooked it back up and the problems began.
The temp would not raise up to operating temp after the core blow out. It would rise to just below cold. Let it heat up for a while then gave it some gas, and the guage would rise but then drop when let off the gas. I did some reading and most signs were pointing to thermostat. Changed out the thermostat and filled it back up with water this time. Let it run for a while and now the temp would not rise above cold and would barely move the needle when I gave it gas.
I decided the sensors were the next best option since it wasn't even registering a temp now. Removed the thermostat housing again and changed out both sensor and sender, reassembled again. Filled with 50/50 this time hoping it was gonna be a good fix this time, and it worked.
Just wanted to post this in case anyone else was in a similar situation. Most of what I was reading was pointing most people in the direction of water pump replacement. I was hoping that would be my last resort since it was going to be the most expensive and the most work.
I hope I don't have to remove that fan shroud again for a long time.
Heres some pictures for reference. I could have tried to clean up the old sensors instead of buying new, but they were much cheaper than I was expecting.
Also I was wanted to get some feedback on the junk I found inside the engine, is the orange/brown color normal? And still no heat yet, I will get to that another day I guess.
