the last few days my temp gauge went out. im pretty sure its the gauge. i checked the sensor in a way by unplugging it and starting the truck which cause poor performance and the check engine light to come on. i was just going to put a mechanical gauge in but then i would still have the check engine light. what do you guys think i could do to fix this. thanks any help is good

there are two temp sensors on your truck. one is for the gauge and one is for the computer. the two sensors are completely independant from one another. the truck will run just fine without the gauge sending unit and the gauge will work just fine without the computer sending unit. it sounds like you unplugged the computers sending unit.

the unit for the gauge is the one with one wire running to it. unplug that wire and use a length of wire to ground it to the negitive battery terminal. with they key on and the wire grounded, look at the gauge, it should be pegged full hot. if it is, your wiring and gauge are fine and you should replace the sender.

you can install an aftermarket gauge if you want, but there are no extra provisions for sending units on the truck. meaning you need to get creative when installing the aftermarket sender or you have to sacrifice your factory gauge.

thanks that helps alot i wondered what that other wire was and by went out means the gauge doesnt move.

well i did that test today and the gauge worked so i went and picked up a sensor at autozone for $7 and it works fine thanks guys
