Tell me about your state.

I know I could not get my wife to agree to Kodiak. I do not htink I would even want live there. I looked at a lot of police jobs in ALaska and all of them required me to be a resadent first. I coont move there if I do not know if I will have a job or not.

Thats cool. not many people can handle it here. Thats why theres a VPSO job waiting for someone who can pass a background test and not burn a hole in the bottom of a pee cup.

I live in town but I travel to at least one village on a monthly basis. did you used to live here?

Yeah, born there and lived off and on for about half my life. I haven't been there since summer of '06 but my Dad is still there.

I work for ACS. Theres a good chance Ive met him or at least seen him around.

Yeah, probably it seems like he knows almost everybody there, lol. He repairs and installs the meters for KEA. He also gets to un-plug your meter and turn off your power if you don't pay.

I would like to hear more about the southern areas of Alaska. If they do indeed stay warmer, I may have a shot at talking her into it. But I will still have the job and property issues.

Facts about TX.

No state income tax. Property taxes make up for it though, $230,000 house, taxes are $2,600 a year.

Traffic in larger cities SUCKS.

Speed limit in rural counties is 80 on the interstate
70 on the two lanes everywhere.

Sales tax 8.25%. On cars its 6.25%

License plates about $58 depending on county.

Right to carry law

No helmet law

Land about 4K an acre rural, 10K an acre in town (roughly)

Still houses available under 100K

Predominately right wing (except austin)

Plains, mountains, beaches, piney woods, we have it all.

If you don't like messicans, don't bother moving here...

Real estate never went nuts here, and it isn't depressed now because of it. You can buy a damn nice house for 150K, less in a smaller town.

Have you ever been to Michigan?

I think Michigan drivers are decent. They certainly drive faster than us, Indiana drivers like to stay 5mph over. Seems Ohio drivers like to be 5mph under. :D

And also, everyone in the passing lane loves to go the same speed as the right in Ohio.

Anytime I had gone to Cedar Point, I took 30 -> 4, this year I took the 80-90 toll road. I came to the conclusion that 80-90 was no faster due to my previous statement. :icon_thumby:

And I never understood the whole "license plate" in the front thing..

You left out the best parts.
1. It is freaking HOT!
2. Every square inch of the state that is fenced with barbed wire, privately owned with a NO TRESSPASSING sign posted every 100' or so. If you want to do anything outside you have to get permission from the property owner (not likely) or travel 500 miles or so depending on where you live to get to a National Park. Been there, done that.
3. Ya'll talk funny! (I was born in Abilene). :icon_rofl:

see in ohio people think the passing lane is a lane to just kinda cruise in. There are two kind of drivers in Ohio. There are those who drive 10 mph on the free way in a blizzard, then there are those who drive 10 mph over in a white out. the two don't mix well.

We are all still trying to figure out the front license plate thing. Seems like a big waist of money to me.

That's not nice! :)

I worked for a John Deere dealership a while ago, and a customer walked in and asked for a "foul." I am like, what in the hell is that? So I asked a co-worker, which happened to be from Texas. I said, "Joe, there's a guy up front asking for a 'foul', and I don't know what in the hell he is talking about. Could you find out if you can see what he means?"

So he goes up front and asks the customer what he needs, he tells him a "foul", and the Texas guy looks at him and says, "oh, a foul." And proceeds to hand him a chain saw sharpening FILE.
