Tell me about your state.

South Central Illinois?

Maybe you should consider Illinois.

As for off roading, there are many underdeveloped township roads that will challenge you, much private land and once you know the owners, there are ATV trails on the properties that are virtually "public". There are LOTS of bottom land with Oil field leases, mud heaven.

State Parks have horse trails, you can ride ATV's on public township roads. No helment law, close enough you can go to Evansville, St. Louis or Shawnee national park, or even the Badlands.

You get *four seasons* of weather, you cannot own a fully auto, only semi with a FOID card, you can conceal and carry with no permit on your property. There is a healthy Amish/Mennonite community, most churches are Baptist, the cost of living is quite cheap. You do have much industry, but right now nobody is hiring. Land is cheap. We got minimal 911, no "cute" names for roads, the road signs that were put in back in '74 still are the norm!

Now the bad:
Chicago ran politics, huge political corruption machine all to serve the holier-than-thou Chicago mafia, including the soon to be president of the United states(HAHA), FOID card, the state cops can be JERKS. The quality of the soil is typically poor, the IDOT is addicted to salt like crack, the deer population is large and lots of deer colisions happen. Mostly the school system is in poor shape, the country schools do good, but the city schools got the laziest teachers I have ever seen!

Fireworks like crackers and bottle rockets are Illegal, but most people go to Missouri and get them at BOOMLAND:icon_thumby: good selection of atv/bike trails in the bottom lands, and oil leases.

The politics is what concerns me most about that state. We were looking hard at it at one time. It already looks as though they are taking steps to take the joy out of gun ownership.

why not move to West Virignia alot of hunting plenty of mud so the big tire thing shouldnt be a problem um i think its pretty cheap to live here and land doesnt seem to be a problem around here i live in wood county and i love it here

um its not to bad some of the plants are kind of slow right now state trooper are hiring and starting out while in school its something like 2500 a month.

seriously, I would go to nevada. 8 years ago Henderson was hiring cops @ $42,000 a year while in academy.

That is real decent start out pay. but what is the cost of living like?

Arizona sure is pretty. But the lack of tress concerns me.

If Wisconsin does not allow CCW, then I am not interested. It sure is pretty though. Nice Ranger to.

CO looks nice. I think we should make a trip there and see if first hand. I am just really concerned about the tree huggers I have read about there.

If property is that cheap in Montana, it just moved up on the list. Do you know of any good scources I should look into to get some more information on property?

I'll have to look for sources, the better prices are actually a ways out in the country(Definitely a Good Thing). I usually just read prices on signs on my way out to do some camping or fishing. I'll write down some names next time I see some deals.

i have to say Idaho, my buddy is a cop and he loves his job. he was a horseshoer and made more then being a cop but i think he makes 35,40 ish that's in meridian, 5 minutes from Boise. but for what your looking for as in horses and atv parks would be in emmett about 18 miles away from Boise. i grew up here and tried Cali, didn't like it so if i moved it would be to WA or Oregon.

thats my 2 cents.

Thanks, any information you can get I would appreciate

I am interested in Idaho. I was looking at some security jobs at a nuclear facility out there. OHV parks do not get my attention though. I would rather spend a few days on trails in the back country.

the gun laws here are good, i carry a .45 all day. its really easy to get a carry permit its real relaxt, i like it

How are cops paid in CO and Alaska?

I wish my wife would be opened mined about Alaska. I have never been, but I here the cold is not that bad in some parts.

Kodiak Island is a marine climate. what that means is sometimes its snowing and most of the time its raining. for instance, its raining right now and theres no snow anywhere. tomorrow is a different story, it might be 20 degrees and snow out the ass. same type of climate in Homer. its very similar to Washington or Oregon.

My wife can hire you right now as a VPSO (village protective safety officer) starting pay is low twenties an hour. you can hunt and shoot as much caribou as you want because they are non native and dont require a tag. the fishing is UNPARALLELED anywhere in the world. if you excel at the VPSO academy, the Alaska state troopers wll recruit you directly out of the VPSO academy. the drawbacks?

1) you will live in a small native indian village
2) the roads are dirt
3) the only access is by boat or single engine aircraft
4) the natives wont like you and will listen in to your house with handheld listening devices
5) you cant carry a gun while on duty
6) you will be required to clack rocks together to scare the bears away from the school children.
7) the natives will try to make you arrest people who land on the beach with their boats and fish from the beach and charge them 200 dollars land use fee even though they have every right to fish there and be there because nobody owns the land covered from low tide to high tide.

Kodiak is very temperate compared to much of Alaska, it gets hit by the warmer Japanese current. I agree the fishing is fantastic. I almost haven't bothered fishing in the lower 48, it's no fun for me.

Hey low_five, just curious, are you in a village, or in town?

I live in town but I travel to at least one village on a monthly basis. did you used to live here?

I know I could not get my wife to agree to Kodiak. I do not htink I would even want live there. I looked at a lot of police jobs in ALaska and all of them required me to be a resadent first. I coont move there if I do not know if I will have a job or not.
