tech question - help needed

alright so ive poked around the tech library and dident really find a deffinite answer

i have a 2wd 99 exended cab ranger and and a 00 explorer awd want to do the 5.0 explorer swap but i want to keep it 2wd is that possible.i want touse the explorer rearend pretty much swap the interior and wireing i just would like to get a yes or no if i can swap it and keep 2wd weather it be buy using a c4 or similar trans

So your explorer has a 5.0 AWD and you want to put in in your ranger and keep the ranger 2wd? Sure you can keep it 2wd. Just don't use the front wheel drive stuff.

and just have the t-case sit there? i was kinda planning toget rid of that save a little weight butif thats the only way then thats what will have to be done

I though you said your ranger was 2wd? Just get a new axle, you'll need a heavier one anyway if your putting a v8 in your ranger if it was v6 before.

Use the 4x4 trans, go find yourself a manual t-case. The t-case doesn't weigh that much. Its light enough that you won't notice the difference, especially with that 5.0. The advantage of the manual t-case is that is has an available neutral setting that you will find useful if you ever want to flat tow (like behind an RV).

Did you say in the first post that you wanna toss the expo rearend? Bad move, if your putting the v8 in there you want that expo 8.8. theres no dout its the best route, as well as swapping the expo springs, front and rear if possible.
