has anyone ran dex/merc 5 in there tcase? i have heard good and bad things about it.

since dex 5 is backwards compatible with dex 3 (the required fluid) i dont see why it would cause problems.

im running dex 5 in both my M5OD and 1350 and havnt had any problems for a few years now.

i have been running straight dex/merc in it but since they say dex/merc 5 is synthetic i thought i would try it. i was told by a friend that it would damage tcase. so before i ran it i thought i would toss it up to everyone here.

dex 5 has a slightly different friction modifier in it. i had also heard it would cause non-perminent issues if run in a gearbox intended for dex 3, but i figured id give it a shot and change it out later if it became a problem.

that was in 2004.

i think of all the gear boxes that take ATF that the t-case would be the least likely to be damaged by running dex 5. it only has one friction surface in it (the front driveline syncro, and that might only be on electric shift cases) that might be effected by the different friction modifier and it has yet to effect my shift-on-the-fly-ability. i also havnt experienced any syncro problems in my M5OD.

those are just my observations though. i can promise youll have the same results :dunno:

i am like you i am going to give it a shot and see what happens hopefully i will not have any issues

This page seems to say not to use Mercon V in a transfer case...

I would just play it safe. Straight Mercon is what's recommended for these things, use it.

the new rangers come with mercon V in the tcases.....i can't see it causing any problems.
