i am a heavy equipment mechanic, and i work with a guy who use to work for ford. that was years ago, well i want to put a 4.0 in my ranger and he says they dont make any power. they are junk. he is always negitive anyway and thinks he knows it all. i dont really listen to him and disagree with him alot. so what do you all think about the 4.0

I wold ask your "mechanic" if he prefers Crack or Heroin?

Maybe he is thinking of a different 4.0.

The 4.0 in the rangers are Very strong. They are Not very fast. They can go fast but they are designed from the get go to be little torque powerhouses.

they generate something like 240ft at 1200 rpm which is almost idle speeds and keep generating it right up past 4000.

If you take care of them they run forever. Could be a little better on fuel mileage. If you want power build up a 302 or other such monster. If you want a good running motor, the 4 liter is great (with maintenance). It is so tiring dealing with the small-peckered-gotta be-better-than-everyone-else retards. It is what it is. But it's not a freaking power contest.

I have one and can say I love it. So fricken torquey. And yes, it could be a little better on gas. And guess what else, mine has almost 208k on the clock and doesn't even burn oil! The inside of the tailpipe is clean. There is some soot but not enough to coat and make the pipe black.
