So, I took out my radio to diagnose poor reception and try to fix some non-working buttons.
This is what I see. That grey box is the the FM modulator for my 10 disc changer:
You can see the truck antenna plugged into the FM modulator:
Totally removed:
To remove the faceplate, take out the following 3 hex screws. Also, don't forget to pull the volume knob off, as shown above:
After you do that, you have to pop up these little tabs that further secure the faceplate to the head unit:
AND
Here is the faceplate taken off of the head unit. There is one cable that connects the two, but it just pulls off:
As you can see, this whole thing is just taking up space. There's not even anything inside of this case:
To remove the circuit panel from the faceplate, there are 6 gold hex screws. You can see them in this picture. One is at the base of the upside down "A". I found them to be an odd size that I didn't have a an allen wrench for. I just used a pair of pliers:
This is the opposite side of the circuit board. That blue is a silicone cover:
This is a close-up of the display screen:
Underneath the silicone is all the electronic buttons. The black things in the silicone are the small pads that complete the circuit.
Turns out, I didn't take a pic of the back of the faceplate. The buttons are all held in place, and won't fall out when you flip the faceplate upside down.
Also, the lights built into the circuit board that light up the faceplate behind the buttons are also installed that are supposed to light up the tape player opening too.
Thought I'd share, as I found it interesting.
