how do i remove the crossmember from the frame
because i can`t get the long bolts out to drop the trans
the 4 bolts under the tailshaft are froze
GREG

Are you talking about the crossmember that's holding the rear end of the tranny? The one that has two bolts on each framerail?

If so, then use some PB-Blaster or at least some WD-40 and let it sit for about 10 minutes. If you need to, use a breaker bar even.

I would send pictures but I don`t know how
but yes it is the cross member that the tailshaft bolts onto
if I can drop that crossmember then i can get the trans out
its the long bolt that goes threw that bracket on the frame
me e-mail address is preflight_gn@yahoo.com
i could send pictures that way?
GREG

Yeah, that's the bolt! The other side has a nut on it (I think). Just get a box wrench over it and seperate them.

Allen

ok I got them appart or at least the nut off of the bolt lol
don`t think i`ll have any more kids hard straine
should I beat the bolt out with a hammer ? thanks for helping me Allen
greg

You should'nt have to beat it out with a hammer, hopefully only tap it out...lol. If you do tap it with a hammer make sure the nut is on the end of the bolt at least a couple of turns until you get it loose enough to remove by hand. You don't want to strip anything you know?

Allen

jack it up a little to take the weight off of it. Soak it in PB blaster and then put a pair of vise grips on the head of the bolt and move back and forth while pounding it out.

well the bolt is still on i tapped for a while then I got out the 3LB hammer still nothing ,so I got out the tanks :) tried to heat it while I beat it nothing I kinda got madd and I hit it real hard and bent the bracket at least one end is off I`m going to cut
the other end off with the torch tomorrow. my tools are frezzing in the snow,, gotta go get some O2 3 days getting this thing appart
my wife dont even ask how things are going :)
GREG

I'm sorry to hear things are going that badly for you regarding removing this crossmember. I'm going to start tearing my truck down tommorow and I'll be posting up some pics to share with everyone. Hope it goes better for you from here on out.

Allen

Well..............

Sounds like the bolt rusted to the sleeve within the bushin, those can be a bitch:tease:, but do usually break free with WD40 & a 3lb sledge...........

GOOD LUCK with what you are attemptin to do!!!

Everythying is ready to go back together Tirck on the pilot bering is the Ford pilot bering puller if it don`t fit inside the bering use a steel file and shave each side (inside the forks) then where the forks join pry on both ends with 2 wrenches the pilot bering should come out .
now my next job getting that transmission crossmember bracket bushing fixed hmmm
