i have a 1997 ranger 4.0 my tail lights will not work i have break lights, dashlights, turn signals every light on the vehicle works fine besides the tail lights and now the license plate light does not work also i checked the fuses they are good i replaced the bulbs i was checking the wiring and cant find anything with it i need to get this fixed fast i got a fix it ticket for driving with them out cause i didn't know they were out

first did you change the bulbs? I am assuming you have done that. Besides changing the bulbs take the current bulbs you have in there out and put some Noalox anti-oxidant on them. You can buy this at lowes or another hardware store. The picture below is what it looks like.

I had the same thing happen to my Chevy Colorado and this fixed it. Hope this helps.

I had this problem, and it was because the running light wire was sheared off at the tail light harness connector at the rear bumper.

If that/something simalar isn't obvious, I would check for power at the tail lights, and keep moving forward untill you find power.

This check the harness for power if none then check the fuse all with a power probe or multimeter. if you have power at the fuse then work your way down until you don't then your problem will be narrowed down to that area of the wire. If the wire its good to the harness but the harness is not well there you go find out why. If there's nothing on the wire at all then could be the fuse, multifunction switch or something else. In other words your gonna have to hunt a bit. Check your fuse block diagram are all those lights on one fuse? also check any appropriate relays if it's the flasher or hazards.
