tailgate rattling

Hi all,

My 1994 Splash tailgate rattles enough to where I think something else is loose underneath, but Im fairly certain its the tailgate. I recently bought some of the hinge inserts necessary to tighten the tailgate so it doesnt rattle, but I think maybe I either didnt install all the pieces or I bought the wrong items. I purchased the set from Rock Auto, but Im wondering if I should have purchased these from Ford instead. Doea anyone have pictures of everything installed? The parts diagrams Ive seen really show only the parts, but not as-installed....TIA!

Most likely you got everything installed right you just need to adjust the locking post back a bit to make it close tighter. Also your problem could be inside the access panel. The rods could be moving around in there. Simple fix with some foam blocks as spacers between the rods and the tailgate.

If your not sure if it's the tailgate rattling, drive with the tailgate off to see if the rattle is gone.
